My 43 year old wife died from cancer two weeks ago. We both loved the Biff, saw them every time they came to Australia, and I played this song, Folding Stars and Mountains at her funeral last week. These lyrics just sum up exactly how I'm feeling, I'm utterly lost and devastated.

I think i was about 14, 15 when i heard this song, played it on repeat when i was on a looooong flight to see my grandpa who was in a coma in ICU, and i remember interpreting "take the pieces and build them up to the sky" as some sort of prayer, but it was simply too late. So yeah.... this song always bring up some heavy memories for me, but also how much i cherish my relationship with my grandpa. Almost 10 years now and i still miss him loads, esp when i see some old gent carrying a nice pen in their shirt pocket

@@c.w2000 I suffered with depression for 12 years, I honestly started to believe we give too much power to these feelings. The brain is a powerful tool if you tell yourself you can never get rid of something you never will. after exercising for six months (nothing excessive at 30 sit-ups, squats and push-ups and a 4k Run, (started at 10)) I know it is beatable, it's just your brain saying something about your situation needs to change.

Every concert I’ve been to Simon has sang this. Usually in stage, solo. Every year (2011, 2013, 2017, 2022 - Columbus Ohio) the venue is always full of emotion and everyone cries. We all sing with Simon. We all share his sadness. We all carry our own. One of the most powerful songs they have. I hope they never stop including it in their set list for shows. ❤️

Once upon a time this song made me cry(I am a man of 24), then made me realise something in myself i'd lost, i got better, got my first tattoo (take the pieces, build them skywards on my chest) and even though that was by far not my first time hearing the song, at that time, for some reason, listening to it, something clicked inside, I don't want to sound all emo and teenagerish by saying this song saved my life…..but fuck me, it hit something and I made it a turning point. Thanks simon james and ben and Mon the fuckin Biff!!!

I first thought of my father when I discovered this song. He passed away 18 years ago. I'm returning to this track a day after my dog passed away because of IBD and I can't help but to think of both of them while listening to it. I have a puzzle piece tattooed on my left ribs with the "take the pieces and build them skywards" line. I'm having another one for my beloved boy. Rest well, Ichiro. I went on a date almost four years ago when I was living in London. The guy I dated was very handsome and Scottish. The first time I saw him I thought "Wow he is so handsome, am I really that beautiful for him?" He drove us to Windsor that day, and on the way, we played our favorite songs. I played Haggard, he played Biffy Clyro. It was a beautiful date. In that very same week, he decided to go back to his ex or perhaps they hadn't even broken up. We didn't meet again. I remember feeling heartbroken even after one date and listening to this song for a while. He reached out to me and apologized after I moved miles away. Feelings wane over time but this beautiful song reminds me how happy, naive and then disappointed I was. Now, they're just memories.

it's strange what different moods can one get after listening to this song. The music feels uplifting and relieving, especially on the album, when it comes after the dense and gloomy 9/15ths. But, the lyrics, man they are so depressing. So straightforward and full of hopelessness, yet you can tell, they also have a positive touch at the end... it definitely proves Simon's amazing songwriting ability!

i cant put it in words how much biffy means to me. ive been a fan since i first encountered biffy at 18 and now im 32. i have always loved music and the connection emotionally it brings. at 18 my girlfriend at the time was attending her first year at the essex university. and one friday or saturday night biffy clyro were headlining. i had no clue who were performing but was instantly overpowered and fixated by biffy when they came on stage and beformed their first song. couldnt of cared less where my girlfriend was. i pushed myself through the growd to be right in front. i was put in a trance of bliss. and being a big lad i wasnt to be fucked with in the small mosh pit lol. after their gig i saw them at the bar and had to go and tell them how fucking epic they were. i had to ask who they was as i didnt hear them say at the end. got to shake their hands and said your fucking awesome. offered to buy them a pint but they were only staying for one. but that memory will stay with me till i die. im a pianist and teach so understand music and my god biffy have never dissapointed from the get go. biffy be played at my funeral amen

folding stars and machines were about the lead singer Simon Neils mother passing away. The video expresses how he felt very well with the lyrics. Hes stuck in place with wires hooked up barely keeping him alive. Since his mood was so low 'ive forgotten how good it feels to be alive' he feels like hes stuck in a black hole with nothing good going for him hence why hes not moving. I lost my mother recently and i can say there are days i feel just like this. Laying in bed staring at the roof.
