What's the theory on leaving the factory wires? I upgraded my 94 S10 years ago, before I even knew the term Big 3. I just figured the Powermaster alternator I was installing back then needed a bigger set of wires. I replaced all the factory leads with heavier gauge lines. Also, are you concerned about not having a fusible link in that new line?

I usually don't use any fusible links when upgrading charging wires, there's nothing wrong with doing it either. I leave the factory wiring for multiple reasons, if I ever get rid of the vehicles I will more often than not remove my wiring and sometimes reuse or give it to someone. This way the OE wires are still there. I've also ran into issues with removing the OE wiring, previous owners "tap" into the main ground for something or the charge wire is routed to other areas for unknown reasons. If you remove it then you have to figure out what was tapped into it or where else it goes, if you just leave it and add on, no issues. If I am wiring a vehicle completely from scratch, yes I would run a breaker on the charge and would have no OE wiring. Thanks for watching!
