This is great! Thanks for your thorough install video to help out others with the install. We'll share this on our website too.

Nice video, I am considering this I live here in South Florida and live at the ocean. I`d prefer Tinned Copper for my application, they did a great job marking wires and so forth.

HAHA! HUGE leap of faith cutting that wire!! lol

No joke, man! Even after verifying that everything worked, I still muttered a little prayer when I cut the OEM wires with a pair of tin snips (what I had on hand)

Great video, very helpful. I just finished this install on my 2017 JKU. I disconnected the old cable from the alternator but it is still has power to it after completing the project. I don’t see in the instructions where we need to remove a fuse like some other models, how did you manage this?
@MikeLearnedАй бұрын
@@mikecollom7347 hey man. Not sure why you’re still seeing power. The battery connection to the alternator should have been removed before beginning, and I never had to remove a fuse to fix mine. Maybe just trace the line and make sure it isn’t connected to the battery? And, after I verified everything was working, I cut off all my old cables, hope this helps
@mikecollom7347Ай бұрын
Thank for your quick reply, I figured it out. While connecting my positive cables I connected the black and green wire as you did. There was also a gray wire that I reconnected, turns out that goes to the original alternator connector. I disconnected that gray wire and all is good now. Now it’s time to take the leap of faith and cut all the original connections off. Thanks for your help.

This might be a duh question but why does your battery sit differently than mine? My terminals are perpendicular to the angle yours are at. Thats not the standard one right? Also, why didn't you pull the starter to attach that line to it? I saw another video of someone doing that in addition to the heat shield. I'm just curious if thats a bigger PITA or not. Thanks for the vid, I only found one other video explaining how to do it on a JK. Good stuff, I really appreciate it!
@MikeLearned2 ай бұрын
@@alexanderlayne1495 hey; and sorry. But I have no idea why your battery is set up different from mine. What year is your JK? Mines a 2017. As for the starter, it really wasn’t too bad to do, just be patient with the connection.

Where did you connect the negative wire to the engine block? Are you saying you just connected that wire to the firewall as well?
@MikeLearnedАй бұрын
I attached the engine block connection to the same stud under the drivers side fender as the factory one. Same went for the firewall
@jguellnitzАй бұрын
@ so the firewall is on the passenger side under the inner fender and the engine block connection is also under the inner fender but on the driver side? So you removed the inner fender on both sides to access?
@MikeLearnedАй бұрын
@ yes, that’s exactly it.

Did you go with the 2 gauge or the 2/0 gauge kit? You answered a previous question with 2 gauge but mentioned 2/0 in the video. Just wanted clarification.

@@SeanButterfield-z9p yeah, sorry. 2/0 gauge.

What is a 3rd Gen JK?
@MikeLearned Жыл бұрын
The last run of JK Jeep Wranglers that rolled off the assembly line before they started making the current model of Wranglers, (JL and JLU). They made three generations of the JK jeep, since it was in production for over 10 years, and very little info was released about performing this upgrade on this year model, which prompted me to make this video.
@benitoig1 Жыл бұрын
@@MikeLearned but what makes it different? 11-12 was interior changes, hard top changes, engine change. What changed from 17-18?
@MikeLearned Жыл бұрын
@@benitoig1in 2018 Jeep made the last of the JK's and started making JL's. Engine was different, interior was different, and the external got an aluminum makeover. But as far as JK's go, I can't remember what year the engine changed, but they went from a previous version to a Pentastar V6 (minivan engine). Which is most likely why I couldn't find a lot of info on performing this upgrade before.

The factory wire on the starter, does it stay or get deleted.
@MikeLearned4 ай бұрын
Factory wire on the starter gets cut. And believe me man, that’s the toughest connection to make in the whole process. Hence the mantra.

Why would tou cut the factory wires?
@MikeLearned18 күн бұрын
Because if you leave them dangling where they’re at, they may end up, touching a hot point electrically on either the chassis or the alternator, resulting in a short or quite possibly a fire. There are wires bundled with those though, which is why you cut away the battery wires and leave the rest in the bundle?
@breeze6802518 күн бұрын
@MikeLearned why not leave them hooked up
@MikeLearned18 күн бұрын
@@breeze68025you won’t have enough room to hook them back up once you install the new cables. Particularly at the alternator and at the battery terminal.
