On the Ducati fall, since the bike is actually in negative position, meaning not only picking up, but picking up even more than flat terrain, you can bite the bullet and rotate the bike on its engine guards. It sucks but if you can rotate it 180 degrees and then its pointed downhill and you are then lifting it with the hill in your favor and are pointed down hill and can start again. If you have a buddy with you, one of you can lift it a bit and put a jacket under the engine guards to keep the damage to a minimum and let the jacket take the abuse. This is much easier on a GS with the cylinders/guards allowing a pivot to rotate the bike on its side. With a v twin or parallel twin its harder. Great video series!!

Flame out in the second clip? It seamed like the Ducati stalled so once that happened he was screwed. I wonder if the bike flamed out because of all the on-off throttle chopping/clutching he was doing. That was some gnarly terrain! Great analysis on the first clip.

It was great to see the recovery after the gravity attack, that last one looked like a really bad lift. Dangerous to your back lifting like that..

Is it me, or does the guy in the first clip look like he's being too "handsy"? You can see even before the crash that those bars are turning too much from input he's giving from his hands, almost certainly from squeezing the grips too tightly. Loose grip is essential.

Thats me and ya. Being a street guy I’m in general trying too hard to control thru the bars. Unfortunately, I come from the Keith Code school of learning. I have his "No BS" (no body steering) bike lessons ingrained in how I ride. Been real hard to reverse all my road racing habits, but imma keep trying - and I should already know to be loose on the bars!

I have analyzed these crashes and I have found the fundamental problem: they are riding enormous bikes off-road.They should be on WR250s, DRZs, etc. Why are you pushing this crap, Daniel? Giant ADV bikes are stupid for off-road, and you know it.

I have a desert x too. You’re right its so big and its so heavy. I almost trade it for dr650 but I will lose so much money. So I practice and practice, and its very rewarding once you get used with the size and weight. The problem will still be there but this will make you want to be fit to deal with it. But yeah, I will still get a smaller and lighter bike so I can go on more difficult terrain that big adv can’t.

Not everyone has the luxury of owning more than one bike. I have an ADV because I want to travel long distances to interesting destinations; do some off roading, hiking, and camping while there; then hit the pavement again for more adventures at the next destination. I'm definitely not willing to ride a few thousand miles on pavement on a dual sport. An ADV bike is without question a compromise bike - it doesn't do everything exceptionally well, but it does most things well enough. Steep, technical single tracks on a heavy ADV are unquestionably not where they excel, but it's more about the skill of the rider than about the capabilities of the bike. Personally, I'm not interested in ADV bikes that weigh more than 460 lbs. The Aprilia Tuareg 660 is ideal in terms of power to weight ratio and its suspension, but unfortunately it's an Aprilia! Hopefully a Japanese manufacturer will soon sell an ADV with a 600cc (or thereabouts) engine, lots of ground clearance, and a decent stock suspension - that's my unicorn bike.

hi there is no point in dissecting a video by indicating such and such situations there are many parameters which do not depend on you which mean that you can fall stupidly. in the majority of cases you won't have any injuries and one day you will fall off your couch stupidly while talking like you do. moral of the story always be wary of the couch. all jokes aside, whatever your level of driving there are rules of good driving to limit the risk of accident (I drive solo most of the time off-road) it is not to postpone the day of driving and avoid driving at night and limit speed. off road the variants are so different with changes in grip, crossing that you cannot master all of them apart from the discussion on the sofa.
