@@DorkintheRoad do you know what the main differences are between the Tiger vs Copper Spur UL Bike packing tents?is it just the pole configuration? I've never really been clear after comparing on BA's site.
@ducfan95463 ай бұрын
@@galynnedavis2996 the Tiger is “semi-freestanding”, so you need to put in some stakes to keep it fully erect 😉, shown at 2:11. I run the Copper Spur myself.

Thank you for the great videos, I just had my new bike day ( I decided on a 2024 KLR) and I am working on building my camping kit for next year. I have 7 years experience on home made cafe racers but I am new to adventure and off road so I am going to wait to hit the trails until after I am able to take a proper safety course and add some of the mods to make the bike a bit safer for when I inevitably lay her down. Thanks again for all the tips and advice for new riders and buyers and I hope you and all your viewers get plenty of miles and smiles.

I recently bought this exact same tent on a Black Friday sale at MEC (a Canadian outdoors retailer), but I haven't had a chance to use it yet... Appreciate the validation that it's worth the cost, as I've never spent over $150 CAD on a tent before so I've been second guessing the purchase.

Much better video than a lot of others on your channel. Here's why: You focused on looking at the camera lens instead of off to the side like you were looking at something off to the left, behind the camera. A creator connects with their audience much better when looking at the camera, instead of off to the side at the flip out vie screen.

I've been using the same tent for a couple of years now. The only downside is it saves so much space in my panniers, that I keep packing more stuff that I don't need.

Love mine! And with the design as it is, you can leave the rain fly standing while you pack up the tent in rain, keeping the tent dry. Or set up just the fly and give yourself a shade shelter on a hot day/evening.

Yes, although you need the footprint for that to work, but it works great - especially useful when setting up under the rain as well. I've used the tent on the TAT last month, I loved it! I like how small it packs and how comfortable it is for such a small pack size. It is also very waterproof (tested thoroughly during a couple of violent thunderstorms). Bought at a discount, it is a great deal.

On the ORBDR I used the Kelty Late Start 2 and really like it. It’s light, compact and runs around $150 with a peace of black plastic for a footprint. I just can’t justify spending that much cash on a little tent.

I use the Nemo Aurora and have for a couple years and before that I also used a Nemo tent. Like the Big Agnes it is pricy. BUT unlike your Tiger Wall UL2 it doesn’t pack down as small. Key to bike camping be comfortable and stay in your budget

Big Agnes has a good reputation in the long distance hiking community. My daughter used a Tiger Wall on her Pacific Crest Trail through hike. Still in good working order. Bike pack tent $400 at Amazon.

You can fix noisy Tyvek. Just spend a few hours while watching TV or something wadding it up and unfolding it again. It will get soft and quiet eventually.

Its a great great tent. As mentioned it is not perfect so i went to the Copperspur bike pack tent. Snd yes it was eye wateringly expensive but worth it. I bought mine from Moto Camp Nerd as well

The COPPER SPUR Bike Pack is better. There is only a 4oz. weight penalty, but it’s free standing so that trade off is well worth it compared to the Tiger Wall BP tent. The weight difference between the 2 vs 3 person sized tents is also only 4oz so I recommend the 3 for two people if you are not smaller folks. For UL fantastics there are plenty of places to save additional weight. Eliminate the heavy tent stuff sack and just use a silicone nylon sack that’s over sized a bit for much easier stuffing especially when the fabrics might be wet and more fragile. ALWAYS pack the tent poles and stakes separately as the vibrations on the moto can a-braid the tent and fly materials on what is strong but ultra light weight fabrics. The bike pack versions feature additional convenience features, like gear lofts and external fly drying loops, beside short length SHORT STICK poles that are not mentioned in this video. It’s simply the best with Big Agnes always winning the awards for best pack packing tents. Of all the major manufacturers they are the ones that really invented the category of BP tents. Doing some periodic UV protection with a product from NIKWAX is a good proactive maintenance procedure as the nylon used is extremely strong but it is not as UV resistant as the heavier Polyester tent flys. BTW you can save some weight by purchasing the regular foot print and not having a floor that is gained on the BP vestibule area.

Very Nice ! This & the new model Tarptent Momentum 1 person tent w / free standing pole will be my all purpose tent system. Trying hard to buy the CFMOTO Ibex 450 Adventure MC in Fl, but tough to find so far.😃😎👍PS still revisit KTM 390 Adventure prior to the new 2025 model to compare- contrast the 2 models !

What is the difference between their $80 extended footprint and a decent tarp? I'm not trying to be a smartarse, just looking to save some money where I can.
@ApocalypseNouille3 ай бұрын
If you have the properly sized footprint (extended or not), then you can set up the rain fly on its own because your can secure the poles to the footprint. It is very useful if you need to set up or tear down the tent under the rain. It helps prevent the inner tent from getting wet. Without the footprint to secure the poles, the tent tends to plop down (the poles are under tension and want to splay out, if you prefer). Some people have made their own thingy with paracord to hold the poles in place, if you want to use your own tarp. Another reason would be that a properly sized footprint prevents water from pooling underneath the tent (if your tarp is too large), or not offering enough coverage (if it's too small), but you can probably fold your tarp properly so it's sized correctly.
