I go to the Alvord Desert near Fields for astrophotography. I have seen adventure riders out there numerous times. For that reason, I have decided to “get into” dual sport riding. Thank you very much for your gear recommendation, etc. My first trip out there on motorcycle will be next spring.

Does this bike much different than the Norden 901? Same platform?

it would be cool if you translate pounds to kg and inches to mm, for us the non-imperial system users :)

I have recently returned from a bit of a European tour on my Transalp. Now I liked the bike before the trip but I had reservations about it however I have to say that I love it now, great fun in twisty mountain roads and can play at being an adventure bike. I did bin the blocky Karoo tyres at a thousand miles as they do not work well with the bike’s traction control on road, switched to Pirelli scorpion trail which are massively better on road. Now at about 5000 miles.

I’m not convinced just yet. That “hard”trail was easier than the “easy” trails (2/10 onX Offroad rating) near me. I’m thinking Old Flowers Road in CO, and that trail kicks my butt. It looks promising so far! I’d love to hear more about the gearing (short or tall end), how much you have to feather the clutch, is it tippy (lean angle comparison), how does it handle steep climbs etc. Thanks for the good work so far.

I recently bought a building lot up in Detroit and built a cabin. I was curious about the bikes coming through and stopping in Detroit. It looks amazing and adventurous. So I'm now watching the BDR stuff and dude it's awesome. I love the Detroit segment. You guys are awesome.

What seat do you have on the Transalp?

I think the Copper Spur is much better. Only a couple ounces more and much roomer when set up. Costs more of course.

Very Nice ! This & the new model Tarptent Momentum 1 person tent w / free standing pole will be my all purpose tent system. Trying hard to buy the CFMOTO Ibex 450 Adventure MC in Fl, but tough to find so far.😃😎👍PS still revisit KTM 390 Adventure prior to the new 2025 model to compare- contrast the 2 models !

I agree about KLR . I now have my KLR for last 2 years and I feel like something wrong with the engine all the time. becuase of noise and vibration. also KLR seat is evil. can't deal with that seat no more then 30min. now I am ready for africa twin.

Then you put a Mikuni tm40, you open the air box, switch the pipe, and it completly transform the bike. Mine used to bog at low speed, at highway speed, slow throttle response, now it has guts enough to scare me 😅😂

Nice video, very informative. I have the 2020 KTM 790, 12,000 miles now and done a lot of off roading with it. Had absolutely zero issues, so my experience so far is very positive. I also love it both on and off road, such a good all rounder. I agree not great for new riders, though, bit to twitchy and unforgiving gearing (e.g. if you should be in 3rd and your not, you can feel it).

CRF300L "easy to maintain"...Do you know what's involved for a valve check? I also don't share your opinion of the DR650...I had one that didn't even last 15000 miles before it started spitting out engine bits in the oil.

I'm buying a bike (another bike) early 2025 and getting gear and WILL BE hitting a BDR somewhere. I'm coming from Arkansas and think the CO BDR will be my best bet. I plan to pull it solo. I don't have any friends who ride and even fewer who want to and then even fewer who would be willing to set aside a week minimum for a BDR trip on Adventure bikes. You do the math on how many people that is. Who wants to meet up with a BDR beginner in about 6 months roughly? Also, I applaud your fight with weight issues. I'm 5" 7' and could walk around at 200lbs without even trying. That's a chunky boy. I recently (worked at it over the past 6 months roughly) lost about 40lbs of fat and put on roughly 10lbs or so of muscle. Pushups and switching out that milk shake with a frozen fruit smoothie I blend up at my house. Zero sugar added. No 'added' anything except some zero sugar diet soda like Sprite for some carbination. You could use orange juice instead though. They taste great and are very filling and healthy. The bright days outshine the dark days so get out and enjoy the bright days!! ps...I don't ever mute you even if you are my youtube internet friend.

On the ORBDR I used the Kelty Late Start 2 and really like it. It’s light, compact and runs around $150 with a peace of black plastic for a footprint. I just can’t justify spending that much cash on a little tent.
