I wish that I had known about the Marmot tent 2 months ago when I upgraded from a 1p to a 2p tent. 😟 My bucket list for a tent, in order, was well-rated, less than $500, as close to 2 lbs as possible, door on each side, double walled, and free standing or semi-free standing. For a double walled tent, I wanted a rain fly that went all the way to the ground. I couldn't find anything with all 7 so I gave up the last 3 in order to get the first 4 and went with the Gossamer Gear The Two. The Marmot tent looks like it meets all 7 criteria.

You've mismatched specs: Trail Weight, Marmot SA 2lb 4oz, BA TW 2lb 3oz Packed Weight, SA 2lb 11oz, TW 2lb 8oz. Better bust out your scale. I dig Marmot, but everything from clothing to sleeping bags to tents have always been over weight.

Backcountry Gear has Marmot still at $299, on backorder. I see the Marmot at 2lbs.4oz trail/2lbs.11oz packed and the Tiger at 2lbs3oz trail and 2lbs8oz. packed. Can't find the material types. I'm assuming sil/nylon but are they 15D or 20D? The Marmot let so much light through on you interior video I'm guessing it has thinner material. What about the bathtub thickness? Ground sheet needed or not, that is added to total weight for comparison. 2P tents don't seem to weigh that much more than a 1P and you get so much more room. I've been trying 1P, 1 trekking pole tents but I think a 2P semi free may be a better way to go. ( 6', 200 lbs. person) Like your honest reviews. We'll all be happy to get back on trail after this "timeout" we're on.

To clear up the price issue comments, Marmot had a 25% off sale that ended yesterday so it’s now $399 The BA TW2 is actually now on sale at REI for $299 because they’re running a 25% off sale on tents. Dan, the weight you mentioned in the video for the Marmot of 3lbs 4oz is the min trail weight - max weight is 3lbs 11oz, or 3oz more than the BA TW2 when comparing the max weight (including stakes, stuff sacks, etc.) Great in-depth review though - I also had no idea the Superalloy existed until now and have been researching tents like mad! Would be great in the future to see you set the tents up - even if in 2x or 3x speed - just to get an idea what’s involved. Hard to find video review that include set-up, breakdown, and then packed size.

Bought the SuperAlloy and the Sierra Designs Meteor light 2p. While I loved the SuperAlloy and I liked it way better than the Bolt I ended up returning, it is claustrophobic. The Sierra was much bigger, much more durable fabrics, fully free-standing and the difference in weight was like 6 or 8 oz. Returned the SuperAlloy. For a superlight tent I just scored a Marmot Force 1p for $100; which weights about 2lbs and is basically the same size of the SuperAlloy. Only major difference is the Force only has one door.

Thanks for doing the review. I have a Marmot EOS 1 and having used it for 4 years I have found it to be a very high quality tent. My only complaint about the EOS is that it the headroom isn't great and it is a bit cramped. I've been looking at the Marmot Tungsten 1 person tent as well as the Superalloy. I'm not a fan of the color of the Superalloy but all of the other attributes seem perfect. Hopefully within the next year or so Marmot will change the color.
@kappy04053 жыл бұрын
Big Agnes made the walls completely mesh now. Disappointing. It didn't save them any weight either. Not sure the Tiger Wall has anything on the Super Alloy now. The trail weights are actually the same, but the packed weight (stuff sacks, stakes, guy lines) are a couple oz heavier on the Marmot. Not a big deal since they can be upgraded anyway. The tents themseld weigh the same, & the Marmot has much more interior room.
@ianmiller26484 жыл бұрын
It's ambiguous in the specs, but if the alloy is like marmot's other ul tents then the fly fabric is pu rather than sil nylon. If that's the case, that would be another significant diferentiating factor as pu has some benefits vs sil nylon (such as not stretching as much when wet).
@kappy04053 жыл бұрын
The website now lists the rain fly as PU, so you are correct.

BA fly creek ul2 is lighter by about 4oz - the extra zipper for the 2nd door is probably what makes the Tiger Wall a bit heavier. And since a 2p is really a 1+p (I'm 6'2" also and totally agree with you on 2 not fitting in a 2p tent) so the extra door doesn't matter to me. So I'll stay a Fly Creek fan

I think you misrepresented the weight of the Marmot tent vs the BA. Did you independently weigh the tents? The min weight of the Marmot tent is 2.4 and the min weight of the BA tent is 2.3. Every website, including Marmot, states that the packed weight of the Superalloy is 2lb 11oz. The Tiger Wall packed weight is 2lb 8oz. The minimum trail weight on the Superalloy is 2lb 4oz, that's not what you'll be carrying on the trail. So the Tiger Wall is actually 3oz less packed weight.

I wanted it so bad due to the weight. I didn’t purchase it due to cost. I went with a Henry Shire Tarp Tent Notch it was on sale 284.00 1 person 2 doors at 27 ounces. I thought it was reasonable for the price for the weight. I made some concessions with going with a 1 person vs a 2 person vs budget. I did look at the marmot superalloys as well I have to say I like it and was considering it thanks to your videos. I agree with you for what you are getting for the cost and extremely budget friendly and the weight it’s hard to beat. I already have a 3 F UL 2 person tent. I don’t own the REI Quarter Dome SL, but did a bunch of research before buying a 2P tent. The one complaint I’ve read about it is the top edge of the rain fly doesn’t extend far enough past the bottom of the inner tent. As a result, every time you open the rain fly while it’s wet, it drips water into the tent. If you are using it for 2people the water drips onto your sleeping bag. Probably not a big deal if you intend to use it solo, but i was looking for a tent to share with my 10yo son.

He confused the packagws weight with the actual weight of the tiger wall itself. The tents themselves actually weigh the same at 2 lb 4 oz. Although the packaged weight of the Marmot is 3 oz heavier (stuff sack, guylines, stakes) which you're always better off upgrading anyway.

Any chance you'll get the BA Tiger Wall 2 Carbon? Would love to see a review on that.
