The sheets for the mora knives are typically made to fit a serten type of carpenters pants that carpenters uses here in Sweden. That hole is made to be attached to a button on a pocket on those pants.

I will tell you about the sheath it's not for little people it's made so u don't have to have a belt It will snap on a metal button like the kind found to button jeans you can find them at any fabric store work pants in sweden have them on there pocket where we have a watch pocket on our jeans I found this very helpful because you can put one of these buttons on your pack on a heavy shirt or ur haversack on a jacket just about anywhere I called Mora and asked them that's what they told me now I just get a half a doz of buttons and put them on all of my gear P. S. thanks for the great videos

I can't get over how much value there is in the Mora Craftline lineup. Amazingly sharp out of the box as well. Wondering about that Mora hatchet... Sweedes sure make good stuff!

Here in sweden (where the Moras are made), the 511 is usually something you would find in a toolbox or at a construction site. Since they are about $4 (or 40 swedish crowns) its an knife that usually concidered "expendable". It's not uncommon that they are used for cutting metal wire or mixing paint and concrete and then thrown away. That being said, its not a bad knife by any means. I have one that is over 20 years old thats still in perfectly usable condition. The 2000 is used by by military who have a long tradition of using Mora's. They are used primarily as a utility knife though. If you are looking for a combat knife it would be the Fallkniven F1 that some swedish regiments adopted. Morakniv recently released a full tang option in the Garberg, which is at the very top of thier price range.

I heard these types of statements before and still a little curious about it. When you say disposable, do you mean like utility knives?
@TheKimjoh560
@TheKimjoh560 7 жыл бұрын
TexMex Yeah, its not a knife many users would bother sharpening. Same thing with the Hultafors line. Its still a good knife, but when you are working on the clock its just a prybar with an edge to many professionals and there is usually a big box of them somewhere on a construction site. I have a 511 in my tool box thats been going strong for 30 years. Its the first knife I recieved as a kid and its been through alot but it held up well.
@frankkrunk
@frankkrunk 7 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit late, but I'll chime in too. TheKimjoh560 is right. If you're a construction worker, you'd pick up a Mora at the hardware store where you buy your screws, nails, pipe fittings etc. You use it until it's dull, then maybe downgrade it to pry-bar duty. This is why you can clip several sheaths together, so you have one sharp cutting knife, and one dull beater. Or one beater and one of the specialized trade knives that rarely show up in bushcrafting videos (electrician, drywall, painter, etc). It's so inexpensive that it would cost more to have it sharpened than to buy a new one. A small business, like a ten-man plumbing or brick-laying company would not have dedicated sharpening tools, or want to waste time sharpening cheap knives. Knives are not the defining tool of their trade, it's just something they use occasionally. On the other hand, if you're a carpenter, cabinet maker or any other kind of professional that mainly works with sharp blades, chances are you have a tool roll with your grandfather's wood handled Moras, that you sharpen regularly and use every day. Larger companies buy Moras in bulk, with their logo printed on the sheath, to be used as give aways. My dad was an international sales rep for a very large Swedish industrial equipment manufacturer, and he always took a bag full of Moras (and EKAs) on his trips. They were extremely popular with foreign clients, so much so that they specifically asked him to bring more of them next time.

TheKimjoh560 If you cut metal wire or "stir paint" with a Mora you should be arrested. That's messed up
@dougjohnsonbushcraftandbjj5561

Instead of stirring paint with a Mora, how about going outside, using the Mora to cut a nice sized stick to stir the paint, then giving the knife to someone that actually needs a blade instead of destroying it? I'm sure that would make some kids day.

Love my Robust. I like that I don’t need a belt to carry it. It’s super light. It goes with me when fishing. When just relaxing at night and bank fishing at night it’s great for cutting bait, making a fire and sharpening the base of a pole holder. Simple inexpensive and durable camping/hunting/fishing utility knife.

Not sure if you knew this but that tab on the one sheath,the little button that sticks out,its allows another sheath to attach to it as a piggy back. Just in case you might like that additional info. The Grey & White knife was in it most the video lol. I think its the craftline set. The red 511 will dangle from the robust. The hole in the belt clip fits over them tabs.

I just got my Mora Heavy Duty Companion in Military Green, 18 dollars. I am very happy with the knife and the sheath. As for your 511 sheath, its actually meant to be attached to a button on a pair of overhaul. The HD Companion I got today, also has the button mounting system, but has a good belt clip. The HD Companion, is 1/8th of an inch thick, and mine came with the spine ready for firesteel use.

On my 510s I cut the belt clip off like you, but then I use some 550 cord and tie a jug sling knot that sits just below the lip at the top of the sheath. If you tie the knot good and tight you can melt down the ends of the 550 and it is totally secure. It weighs absolutely nothing and makes a great option for a neck carry.

the mora belt clip u see there is a hole up top it's for securing it in a button. we have workman's pants here that had a dedicated button for mounting a Mora, jeans type button works good for that . and the sheaths with the knob in front that's the workman's series so u can stack another mora sheath in front of another Mora knife.

Hey Chris the "belt loop" on the 511 is made for use with common workpants that have a button on the side of the leg that "loop" clips on to. And when i say common i mean 9 out of 10 diffrent workpants in Sweden have that button.

I think the handle of 2000 is more confie ,the gaurd on the Bushcraft it is in the way some times)And the stainless steel is Sandvic 12C27,and something more-just got Mora 2010, it is using the 2000 blade(you can see)but with the new handle. Actually 2010 was the prototype for Bushcraft Survival,Forest,Triflex,Force and the last one was Bushcraft Black and Pathfinder.Regards.

Hultifors Heavy Duty knife runs around 11$ I think it is probably the best bang for the buck and has a much better grip and still has a guard for those who like that. Another cool thing about these knives is that you can buy blanks and make your own wood handles for fun. I've never done that before but after seeing some vids I might give it a try, and just a bit of work they look beautiful.

I'm a big fan of the Companion and the, unfortunately absent from the video, Companion HD, which is basically a Robust in Companion colors, military green or blaze orange. The two Moras that I use most often are the Companion MG & the Companion HD in blaze orange; both have the carbon steel blades. I really prefer the blaze orange & black handles to the green & black handles -- I've never liked gear that hides from me in the woods -- but the regular Companion in blaze orange is only available with a stainless steel blade. My 'drop it in my pack & forget about it' knife is the Light My Fire model. It's not my idea of an ideal primary knife, no Mora is, but it's an excellent back-up blade should you damage or lose your primary knife. It doesn't rust, and it has a built-in ferro rod. It's also available in like a half a dozen different colors, and most of them are fairly high visibility and are likely to be attractive to younger kids. I like it as a kids' knife partially for that reason and also because of the fact that the stainless steel blade is fairly low maintenance, a good thing on a kid's knife. A Mora Light My Fire in neon green (with a slightly rounded tip) was the knife I gave my nephew when I taught him knife safety & how to build a fire. I haven't tried any of the new handles. I don't really like pronounced guards on knives of this type, but I'll wait until I actually try one before I hate it. The only Mora I have with a guard is the Classic 612 with the red wooden handle & the metal finger guard. The guard on that one is thin enough that it's not in the way, but I'm not not really a fan of the overall design of the knife. It may be the classic Mora, but I like the more modern plastic & rubber handles. They're stronger, a lot stronger, and, to me anyway, they feel better in the hand.

No it's not. These are carpenters knives here in Sweden. As you say, those holes are made for a button, but not for your jacket. The button that you attach the cheet to is located in a serten type of carpenters pants that's widely used here in the north.

European carpenters use the Mora knives like we use utility knives for every day carpentry tasks. I have Swedish carpenter pants that has pockets and buttons to hold and latch the Mora to. Cheers Curt Boyer

Thanks for the video. I have a few 511 models, only one is sharpenable, the others suck, can't be sharpened, don't hold the edge, ,, I don't know what is going on there. I don't think anyone is going to counterfeit a ten dollar knife. maybe they changed steel. The companion sharpenes and holds an edge, I am very apprehensive about going any deeper into the wallet for a more expensive Mora, if all of the steel is inconsistant.

I love Moras. Good affordable knives. I'm hoping the Mora hatchet thing doesn't get stolen... I like the way it looks but want to see a review before I get one of those.

Hey there @preparemind101 , just noticed you skipped one.... right in the beginning of the video it is between the light my fire and the robust. It seems to have the same handle as the companion mg but with a gray color. With Mora is that? can't find it on their website. Thanks for the great vid!

Chris just saw this video, the Boron Steel is good at holding its shape and very hard to cut through...but it tears with lateral pressure...just an fyi, that is a trick we learned in an industry sponsored vehicle rescue class.
