I love to see young musicians on the Jazz seen. These young cats are on the way to becoming the next generation in Jazz musicians. Bob Mintzer is an awesome musician and band leader, and of course a great director... They definitely got and edge...

Observe all the mikes, one per instrument, etc. If they wish to really channel Basie, et al, then record the "studio" and eliminate all the mixing and direct miking. It kills the ambiance and beauty of the total sound. IMHO, common current issue of recordings. P.s., it would be interesting if they tried to record in a studio in the same manner as was done decades ago. OBTW, they recorded back then with vacuum tubes, which have better harmonics for recording.
