I see the jump between "bricks" and "smart batteries" and think of Core's SWX line... right in between. They're certainly lagging behind with less output options; only a single 5W USB connector.
@THEDPJOURNEY3 ай бұрын
It’s pretty frustrating honestly! They seem to be living under a rock still. Hopefully this will wake them up
@skymakai3 ай бұрын
@@THEDPJOURNEY It is pretty frustrating, because I'd rather buy the Core batteries. They prove to be able to handle higher output than my SmallRig 99Wh batteries, but at the cost of needing a v-mount plate with USB-C to use them the same way.
@THEDPJOURNEY3 ай бұрын
The 99 is not like this one. I also have the 99 but it’s not to be compared to the 212 in power output. That’s why I wish they just scale this one down to a 155 version
@skymakai3 ай бұрын
@@THEDPJOURNEY Indeed. The 99 is still great for small cameras with low load needs. And it's so versatile with all the outputs. But, I can't rely on it for even a small COB light. It'll lower it's output as soon as it hits 50%.

It was recently 20% off at B&H, I was tempted. Had I watched your video beforehand, I probably would have grabbed it. To your improvements, I'd add Lemo ports, 2 pin and/or 4 pin.
@THEDPJOURNEY3 ай бұрын
If you’re 1 of the first 10 buyers then you can get between 200 and 50$ And yeah those other ports would be great for sure

Looking at your power duration chart, how do you power a 170W Nanlite 150B or even a 350W with a limited output of 140w from this battery? Thanks
@THEDPJOURNEY3 ай бұрын
The battery can output 212 watts per hour, that’s why it’s called VB”212”. So 170 easily fits within the 212 max total output The 350 watts light measurement I added was using 2 batteries (which I mentioned). Doing the math again (212X2=424) which again exceeds the total power draw needed for a 350w. You can also power it at 45% if you use only 1 battery
3 ай бұрын
@@THEDPJOURNEY what port and cable would you use to power the Nanlite at 170W?
@THEDPJOURNEY3 ай бұрын
Nanlite has a V-mount battery plate that takes power from the BP and converts it to their lemo power

I would just get the anker c800 or c1000, cause it’s just a better battery with more charge cycles and other features that will come in handy like 120v outlets, app support, etc. the one downside is it’s way heavier.
@derickj19763 ай бұрын
Ok i get it now, these are for things like cameras and are lightweight. Portability as well, so this thing is a beast then.

I’m sorry but I’m very confused and disappointed with how this battery is being touted as innovative or unique when SmallRig is hardly the first to give lots of PD in and output and overpriced compared to the premium market. SmallRig is trying to place themselves in the premium market but are not comparable to the likes of Bebop, Swit, or honestly Core and similar. For example I don’t see any use whatsoever for DC barrel outputs on any professional set. It’s D-Tap, 2-pin Lemo, Fischer 3-pin, or now some USB PD, but the Core developed version definitely being the ideal for the whole industry to move too (SmallRig needs to adopt the open standard, it would be terrible to see them try to make their own as a small player). Including DC barrel in a premium product just tells me SmallRig is not listening to their pro users, only social media content creators which really puts them in a weird place. I appreciate your review, which you did touch a little on some of my points, though obviously disagreed on others too. The Hyper and Nano displays are critically not unnecessarily pulling power when not needed, including importantly not being lit when not needed being an issue on set. It’s also critically readable on set with the SmallRig battery not being visible in bright sun. I guess I just am blown away by the KZbin penetration of this premium priced battery when it hasn’t and likely won’t make it onto any IATSE or large non-union set anytime soon.

Stop hating just because a Chinese company makes great products lol, you can stick to those garbage like Bebop and Core alike, no one is fighting with you lol. 😂
@robertfeliciano57233 ай бұрын
I figured pro sets were using battery plates with all the ports you need. We mirrorless users that want small and light rigs still benefit from DC ports.
@JojoJoget3 ай бұрын
Lmao tf are you talking about, DC barrels isn’t the standard. If you’re thinking these are overpriced then you haven’t been using V-mount batteries much, you used to pay far more for far less.
@TheTechnoPilot3 ай бұрын
@@robertfeliciano5723 Usually yes as much as possible, but sometimes you just need more than you can fit on a plate, or you have a camera like the Raptor, Burano, or other that has a built in plate and limited or no power outputs. When I started out I was using some DC barrel ports as well and now, its only on end devices like video transmitters or monitors which are at least locking now. At the price and ubiquity of D-Tap or even better knock off Lemos, the barrel really shouldn't still exist even down in the mirrorless market.

@@Thekidisalright SmallRig has quite literally collaborated with me on a product that I designed and they manufactured and released. I hardly hate them, I just am so frustrated at their lack of direction or listening enough to their pro user base. They would rather chase the ring-light youtuber most of the time, but then weirdly straddle the pro market with a product like this battery.
