A couple of weeks ago as mentioned, I acquired the Camolo Geek tripod. It’s been in daily use item with my MagSafe iPhone as a table stand, and also used with a cold shoe with a tripod stand by my viewing chair. It also comes with an adhesive magnetic ring which was useful attaching on my iPad mini, to also make compatible with the tripod. This has been a such game changer that ultimately it was an easy decision to buy a second one.

I already have a 1TB iPhone: 1-shooting in Prores would last you 2-3 shoots max, depending on how much you shoot 2-if the internal storage fills up in the middle of the shoot, what do you do? You need external storage. 3-it’s a lot faster to just pull out the SSD and connect to your computer to copy your footage than to use your phone to copy, which again you might still need for your shoot

Confused about what makes this specifically for iphone? Are iphone users claiming type c as apple now?
@THEDPJOURNEY5 күн бұрын
If you noticed, I didn’t claim it’s “not” for android. For me, since I only own an Apple phone, I would talk about my personal experience with it on Apple. What if I recommend it to Samsung for example and then realize it has issues with them after someone like you points it out. My policy: share “my” experience only. Not here to claim anything for any brand as you suggested
@MrAce50225 күн бұрын
@THEDPJOURNEY fair point. It's just confusing/frustrating cause SO many people are like "this is for iphone" but its literally just a phone mount or something simple. And now with integrating USB-C I've already heard multiple people say "iphone type c". Now that the connectors are the same, we should be bridging the gap but it seems others are finding ways to divide it even more.
@THEDPJOURNEY5 күн бұрын
@MrAce5022 hahaha, yeah I hear you. Many iPhone owners think there’s no other phone than APPLE. But rest assured, I’m fully aware USB-C is not an Apple invention, or even Android for that matter. Android was smart enough to use it early on. When Apple chose the greedy route with proprietary lighting cable to cash in! With that said, I know that Android users probably have 2-3 of these already, so i didn’t bother addressing them (you’re already know it works for yours without me saying it). I was just relaying my experience for fellow iPhoners who are still exploring the USB-C world

Thanks for the research done with all these parts. Great video production as always. I've ordered a few pieces from your recommendation list. My advice for everyone getting these tiny SSD enclosures would be to use a PCIe 3.0 NVMe instead of PCIe 4.0, since the latter will be 10°C+ hotter, reaching 70°C+ (158F+). How are you monitoring video with the top handle setup with a hand blocking half of the screen?
@THEDPJOURNEY7 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment, you’re absolutely right about the SSD getting hot, but did you try that at 120 fps in ProRes? 4.0 is kind of future proof and can help copy or even edit faster in your computer For the top handle, I use my older phone as a wireless monitor. I saw some $50 wireless iPhone monitors pop up these days as well that might be good to consider. Haven’t tested them though, but I know they’re not the best quality and not the brightest for outdoor
@Dz_M37 күн бұрын
@@THEDPJOURNEY I haven't tried 120 fps in ProRes. These enclosures are 10Gbs limited. Both PCIe 3.0 and 4.0 NVMes are handicapped by NVMe to USB controller, and show similar sequential and random speeds depending on a drive brand. I've tested and verified it. There are no such tiny enclosures with USB-C-4 or Thunderbolt yet to consider future proofing. I'll take a cooler drive today. Thanks for the tip on wireless monitoring with another iPhone.
@THEDPJOURNEY7 күн бұрын
Which SSD would you recommend then. I went for this one since I already tested and it worked perfectly. But it’s power hungry anyway
@Dz_M36 күн бұрын
What do you mean by power hungry? Does WD SN770M drive work in enclosures without external power source? Some NVMe drives do require external power as they pull more than 4.5W iPhone can provide - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHLVkGOXjKica9E I read that WD SN770M drive can get to 82°C under load. How long can it sustain continuous recording in 4K 60p ProRes HQ with your setup #1 (direct-attached to iPhone)? I would recommend getting an NVMe drive in a desired capacity from a merchant with an easy return process. Test it in your environment with your codec requirements. Also, pay attention to the controller selection in the USB-C enclosure. JMicron JMS583 seems to be less efficient than Realtek RLT9210. I’ve tried these two NVMe drives in BIBABLYKE Enclosure (RLT9210 controller) on iPhone 15 Pro: 1) SP UD90 2230 PCIe 4.0 x4 1TB (SU01KGBP44UD9007BH) 2) AITC KINGSMAN MP530 2230 PCIe 3.0 x4 1TB (KSMP530M1TB223) As I’ve noted above, both run at similar speeds in a 10Gbs enclosure according to CrystalDiskMark benchmark. However, there are two noticeable differences: 1) MP530 runs ~10°C cooler; 2) MP530 can record in 4K 60p ProRes HQ continuously from empty to full, while UD90 starts dropping frames at 28 min mark, due to either thermal throttling or SLC cache exhaustion. Surprisingly, a PCIe 3.0 NVMe can be a more suitable solution for continuous recording, albeit at a slightly higher cost.

I really think it is bad move to film h.265 first and then export to ProRes for editing and then export to h.265. Why not to film first ProRes, editing and then export to H.265 ??? BECAUSE you don’t lose the quality at first!!! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Or you will lose TWO TIMES the quality. Please explain your move? (See 18:00). I really understand it if your phone has not enough space, but for filmmakers is phone storage not important because they have external storage drives. So I really don’t understand your move :P
@THEDPJOURNEY9 күн бұрын
You said it, recording H265 is the only solution (not the better solution) in these 2 cases: 1-you don’t have a SSD and you want to record in high speed, which won’t be possible internally 2-if you’re running out of space either internal or external
