If you use an Offset on the sides you dort need the big screws with the wood spigot.

Hey Ron, I don't know how professionals do it, but I designed everything on the computer in the smallest detail, as you can see in the first minutes of the video. I use Microsoft Visio.

Hi Isaac. Water leaks were not my concern, because it’s an outdoor canopy. Lucky for me, there are no leaks, even if it’s not water proof. There are water proofing techniques and materials that can be used, if this is necessary.

The joints are a bit sloppy! A good test of a reasonable joint is that the joint should hold together when dry fitted. Most decent carpenters have to tap the joints together with a hammer to ensure a good fit. However, plenty of glue does wonders. The job looked OK when finished though. The only thing I would have changed to the design would have been to avoid the gap where the underside of the roof boards meet the wall. The rafters should have been flush with the top of the wall board. Looks like it was filmed in Spain - the Dexters brand is big out there.

Hi John. Thank you very much for your input. You are right about the gap where the roof boards meet the wall. The design was for a flush joint, but I guess I messed up a little with the angles at the diagonal reinforcement beam, and it threw me off a bit. This was my first major detailed wood work. I hope the next one will be much more precise. This is Romania, but indeed it has a Spanish atmosphere,. Dexter brand is promoted here by Leroy Merlin hardware supermarket. All the best!
