most gymnasts are very strong individuals....I've had a few gymnast buddies demonstrate awesome strength carry-over to lifts such as a bench or dead-lift. Have fun doing rings, love to see anyone do it.

this is a old video... he decided to do a major cut, awhile ago.... now he's something like 250 or 260, & just shredded.... it's at the point where if you didn't know that he was a powerlifter, you may mistake him for a aspiring bodybuilder...... it's pretty wild bro.... not sure if it's highlighted too much, but if you google supertraining, you may be able to find something on his website about it.

to improve their sport, most athlete do some form of resistance training runner squat and do other lifts to get faster or to improve muscular endurance same for gymnasts but they are not their main activity so they use weight lifting as an accessory

exactly so you get my point... pushing a 300 pound sled 1600m creates a higher overall power than bench pressing 500 pounds 3 times

He was in a 308 pound weight class and has over a 800 pound bench. He is just a big person. look at all the people in those weight classes.. ryan kennelly, scott mendelson etc. They are not "fat" they are just big. Bench pressing is just one of those lifts that require a good size to get a lot of high numbers. you will never see a small person benching over 700, and if you do he/she is just an awesome freak of nature!
@Bigboypowerlifting
@Bigboypowerlifting 12 жыл бұрын
a movement being 'funtional' depends on what the person does in day to day life, he's a powerlifter and that means that the bench press is functional to him. he can probably do more pullups than you at the moments and he can probably powerclean more as well, and your last question is dumb, he's not a runner, its the same as me going up to an olympic runner and asking "how much do you bench press" it doesnt matter because they train for their sport

Maximal strength improves both intermuscular and intramuscular coordination. Your use of "coordination" is perhaps too general to invoke any meaning. Max strength develops power as well according to the equations F = ma and P = FV since power = work over time, and where work = force times distance, hence power = force times velocity. See how power is related to strength? Power, since clearly a speed concept, should persuade you against being redundant, as you are.
@rscabbage

1. cardiovascular/respiratory endurance 2. stamina 3. strength 4. flexibility 5. power 6. speed 7. agility 8. balance 9. coordination 10. accuracy .... so you're telling me having a big bench press helps with all of these? okay

the object of being fit is to not only look good... but be able to do anything your body needs you to do. say you have a wife in your side seat and you get in a wreck. your wife gets hurt and you need to run to the nearest town that is 3 miles away. people who specialize in bench and dumbells wouldnt even make it to town! being fit is more important than people think it is

@NaturalGallantBodybuilding
@NaturalGallantBodybuilding 10 жыл бұрын
I've found the same thing if I lift heavy to failure for too many workouts. I've found that mixing in lighter weight workouts and hitting failure with reps of 15-20 seems to help.
@Boxerman801
@Boxerman801 10 жыл бұрын
Natural Gallant Bodybuilding I think a need some more carbs or proteins or? I can do many reps but when I put on to do 2-4 reps i get weaker next time I train, strange. this is specially in benchpress, shuolder press, triceps press. If I keep doing 8 reps then I can be stronger next time to do 9 or 10.
@NaturalGallantBodybuilding
@NaturalGallantBodybuilding 10 жыл бұрын
Lars Vogel I discovered this a long time ago too. The thing is, when powerlifters lift for 3or 6 reps, they're rarely training to failure. This keeps their joints from burning out, while at the same time, their nervous system gets used to handling larger poundages. I have a video on it, called How Many Reps Should I Do.

I don't know your training program, but I'll share mine, and it's similar to Max Wendler 5/3/1 program.. what I do is I train for three weeks, every week loading heavier weights. And on the forth week I drop to light weight and build back up only this time I get higher on the third week.. imagine a graph, a line goes up 6 steps and drops 2, then again 6, and drops 2. So even tho we dropped to step no.4, we got back up to 10(from 6). Makes sense? I would advise you to look this program up on Google it might help you. I started powerlifting a month ago and at first I could only deadlift 80 kg for 3 reps.. now I deadlift 110kg for five. I weight 61kg and am 168cm at height. I'm not promising it will work the same for you but I will offer you to try this. Gl :-)

Average gymnast weights around 176 pounds. Average powerlifter varies alot but most common is around 300++pounds.124pounds difference just in bodyweight. Now ask that gymnast to put a backpack with 124 pounds on hes back and make him walk around with that "24/7" Then ask him to go train like other powerlifters do, deadlift 800pounds squat 800pounds and benchpress 700+pounds and then ask him if hes out of breath. Power-lifters energy/oxygen consumption far surpass gymnasts

The video was about bench press tips, not bodybuilding tips. Marc Bell is a powerlifter not a bodybuilder and if you don't think he knows what hes doing than check out his pics on his blog. He stepped back from powerlifting and now is training to be lean and he is now ripped. you would not even recognize him. The man knows how to train and that is the bottom line. Bodybuilding and powerlifting are night and day when it comes to training.

And maximal strength does add to endurance at least to some extent. A 600 lb bench presser will perform more reps with 400 lbs than a 300 lb bench presser can with 400 lbs. High reps don't impress. But I'm sure you'd prefer a Prius over a corvette bc it's more fuel efficient, right? LOL

why do you think they dont have great fitness levels? Many of these guys are crazy explosive and can jump onto 50inch+ boxes. Dont forget the flexibility. Westside squatters take extremely wide stances. You know how painful that is on your groin to hit a parallel squat that wide without great flexibility?

You obviously dont understand the body if you think muscle definition and being "ripped" defines an athlete. These guys are packing three times as much muscle on their body than runners. Its just covered by fat. The fat allows for these guys to push more weight in a sport than matters all about pushing more weight.

@m5p944 Runners (sprinters) are often very good squatters, and have an ok deadlift. Bench press really doesnt show much overall fitness. Powerlifters who squat 1000 pounds have a terrible cardio system, if you let them run 500m, they die. Ever read Jim Wendler's 5/3/1? people who are that strong can only use their strength to squat and thats it. They have no overall fitness. Not hating on powerlifting, i love it too but the top powerlifters are NOT athletic, theyre just good at their lifts
@UnknownEntity334

yeah sure, only one small problem, cardiovascular diseases are the #1 at what people die off if you are not living in the jungle. if you have twice the ammount of blood in your body or are twice as big, your heart has to work harder and you will sooner or later recieve issues prolly like left ventriclar hypertrophy either way it does for sure reduce the time it takes for you to get issues. apart from that, renal failure, destroyed liver..? transplants aint fun

actually one more statement before i go. If you think bench press for max reps is going to give you endurance/make you fit, why don't you fucking try getting in a fight for over 1 minute with somebody who trains for ufc and see who comes out on top? I see ZERO fucking people in any sport who train to be 380 pounds bench pressing 800 and shitty fucking cardio. Reason why? It's fucking useless.

I hate to bust your bubble again.. but you're wrong..AGAIN. Power is a function of time and other variables. Pushing a 300 lb sled 1600m may take a long time for one or a short time for another. The person who does it quicker has more power. You are a very confused human being.

@NRGPhuk puffy face means nothing there are only a couple of roids out there that will cause that and even then it wont cause it in everyone not only that but this guy is obviously more of the powerlifting type in other words has big muscle and some fat with it aswell so some puffy around the face would be expected to think that u can say "puffy face = steroids" is just a big fail imo

All you do is knock the hard work these powerlifters do to accomplish things you will never be capable of achieving. You probably envy them to the point that you actually hate anyone who's higher than you. Too bad little CT. Get over it, and then get a life. Mark Bell has accomplished more than you can or can even ever attempt, so get lost.

You'll never get the point. But it doesn't matter either. The world will never acknowledge anything that you do or anyone who follows your training philosophy. We want to see people who achieve world class strength. People like you do a little of everything, but you don't deserve a title like a world champ does bc it's easy to be good at everything, but not easy to world class at just one thing.

I managed a large commercial gym for years and have frequented "black iron" hardcore lifting gyms for longer. I've never seen anyone bench press 500 lbs without a shirt or without being on gear.
