Big Bird meets his Brazilian cousin Garibaldo from the 70s version of Vila Sésamo. This excerpt was taken from a 40-year-old special by TV Cultura that aired in 2007, the same year that Vila Sésamo returned in Brazil.

The old and new "Garibaldo". I explains why "Garibaldo" The original "Garibaldo" was the blue one (1972-1977), but the show was in black and white, you could only tell he was blue in tv specials. But in the 90's, when "Sesame Street" VHS arrived in Brazil, "Big Bird" was renamed "Garibaldo".From 2007, they made a remake of "Vila Sésamo", but as the blue "Garibaldo" drew a lot of attention (mainly because he was so scary) Sesame Workshop and TV Cultura chose to use the "Big Bird" costume and changed the name to "Garibaldo". But just like China's "Da Niao" character, "Big Bird" and "Garibaldo" are different characters even with the same costume.

i'm brazillian i wasn't borned on the year that sesame street first camed to brazil but i do remember the blue garibaldo as much as i like USA big bird it would had been ever cool if the sesame workshop could had atleast gaved the original garibaldo a original design, like they did on the other international sesame street shows, not recycling the US big bird

The special is about the history and origins of TV Cultura, I don't know if you would be interested. The only parts related to Sesame Street were the ones in the video were shows Garibaldo with Big Bird (which by the way is also called Garibaldo in Brazil) talking about the return of the show to TV Cultura.
