Im terminally ill and disabled, would love to be fishing out there like ive done all my life , mostly on mountain lakes in Oregon and California, some Ocean fishing Pacific Northwest and the famous Rogue River in Oregon my home stopping grounds. But my end life cycle would love to fish new waters and species that I haven’t had. My dream is to catch a Goliath Grooper and a barn door halibut! Oh and I want to taste a coconut crab! I love dungeoness crab, snow crab or king crab/ but can’t afford them.

Any bigger I would not keep, caught a 22lb. one last year & let it go. up to 5-7lb. I keep. From Southeast Louisiana, catch them in the bayou in front my house, so I keep what I want legal or not. And they have worms in speckle trout also. Bayou Lafourche. Tacos looked great, thanks for sharing.

Hey Brant you may remember me we fished on Navarre pier growing up. I’m your age but I fished a lot with your dad especially the tarpon runs in the summer. Anyways when you were passing that rod around the trees I said “yep that’s a pier fisherman” 🤣. Good memories of going around the second gazebo on the old Navarre pier with Cobia or Tarpon. Anyways glad to see you having success here and hope all is well. Jesse

Brant I catch huge black drum in Tennessee. If I grilled our drum and sat them side by side with yours, I swear you could not tell the difference in taste. I clean mine a little different because of the bone structure. Most folks around here believe they are trash fish, however I can assure you they are not. N E way I watch your videos religiously as I love surf fishing. Who needs a charter? Give me the beech or bay. BTW that taco recipe looks to be the bomb!

I’ve caught hundreds of Freshwater Drum from Lake Erie in my lifetime, and always released them. Maybe I’ll give em a try when I get back to Ohio at the end of the month. My family always releases them because we’re usually catching walleye and yellow perch for our fish dinners.

When we caught them in southern Texas they called them Gaspergoo's there.

I've caught many fresh water drum and have eaten them. They are good eating if you bleed them out as with any fish. I usually put the fish meat in a bowl with fresh water and leave overnight in the fridge. Freeze after that and I've never had a problem.

@@d.faulkner8210 That's funny and cool. My Grandpa and Grandma used to save the ones they caught in their own tackle boxes, and they had alot! Grandma had the most! I think they used the drum meat for trotlines and bank/dock lines. LOL

You gotta harvest the collars and cheeks off of drum that size. So much good meat most people toss in the trash.
@bonepicker15 ай бұрын
I'm with you on that man. I could keep my family fed with just the collars and cheeks of just about all the fish Brant, Beach Bum, and Bearded Brad, cleans. I follow Reed the Fishmonger, and Victor with Landshark on KZbin. They are 2 of the best fish cleaners I've seen. They don't waste anything during fish cleaning. Collars, and cheeks beautifully done. I grew up in poverty in Pensacola, and learned not to waste anything. Cheeks and collars were all my mom could afford to buy from fish markets down there. She'd ask for the heads and backbones at Joe Patti's, they'd give her bags of big grouper, snapper, amber jack heads for $20 bucks, and we'd have enough meat to last a couple of weeks. Being old school, I literally cringe, at the amount of wasting I see in his videos, and the other guys I named. I understand they might not like to eat collars, but may know folks that do and could give them to other folks. Would be greatly appreciated I'm sure.
