I love that this show is not about losing the weight but rather accepting themselves exactly as they are. It is from that place of self-acceptance that healing and change can truly begin. We need more shows like this.
@Sarahlee358Ай бұрын
They shouldn't simply accept themselves as they are, or most will face health issues by age 50. I've seen people in their early 50’s severely affected by morbid obesity, using wheelchairs, and relying on disability. Losing weight and prioritizing health should be the top priority.

When I was younger I was very active and as a nurse and on the days off I'd go out dancing but as you get older all those things are in the past you can't do anymore dancing or climbing or just about anything I can think of that I used to do because I'm 90 years old now and for the past 10 years I mostly sit in my recliner walk a little in my studio apartment and on the patio watering the plants potted. I used to love swimming but there isn't a pool here the last time I swim it made my back hurt so bad. Thank you for the video.🥰🥰

I had a patient when I did home health nursing who needed me to teach her about type 2 diabetes, new onset, because she couldn’t see very well due to her macular degeneration. She was likewise in her 90’s and she was out there at least 3 times a week ballroom dancing. She had all them old men at her feet! She still did her own makeup but she’d always ask me to draw on her eyebrows! She said that was one thing she just couldn’t do! And she looked awesome! I can only hope to be as great as her when I get to be in my 90’s! I’m currently 62 and I sadly had to stop working as a RN after 35 years because I have severe arthritis from childhood joint laxity. I’ve had 11 orthopedic surgeries so far, 6 more to go! Right now I’m working on getting myself to my personal best, had to lose a bit of weight myself there with the full onset of menopause. I’m 113 lbs now, nearly there and I can walk my 3 lovely dogs, go to the gym. Some days though - my pain is bad and I listen to my body and just take it easy.

A thought for all of these people (from someone in the same situation): please don’t hate your body. Your body is absolutely AMAZING! Look at what it has kept you alive and ticking through? LOVE your body; don’t feel guilty - the past is the past. Enjoy your holiday and enjoy your body feeling good without having to put in loads and loads of processed foods. Eat with enjoyment and live with enthusiasm…. And then slowly but surely see how you can show your body your love for it. Loads and loads of love to all you fabulous people. (And, Phillip, you are incredible. You are definitely NOT a failure. You are strong, courageous and a super person. I hope you will receive more medical assistance to help you. Blessings to you.)

People need to understand that eating & weight is more complicated than just eat this or that & don’t eat so much. It’s like telling an addict to just stop using drugs. There are brain chemicals involved & how an individual reacts to them. There are medical conditions & medications that affect metabolism. Chronic pain can affect one’s ability to exercise enough to lose weight. Don’t judge or think you have all the answers. We don’t know people’s backgrounds, medical history or psychological experiences to know anything about them. Be kind, empathetic & encouraging. Pray. Or say nothing at all.

@Circee112 ай бұрын
@@donnyreiss1180Not really. In my case, I was an emotional eater. I didn't eat because it tasted good or out of hunger. I ate to push my feelings down. Because I believed it was shameful to cry and I wasn't free to express my anger so I needed an outlet so people wouldn't think I was a bad person. So whenever I felt like screaming, crying or raging, I just stuffed it down with food and I didn't feel anything anymore. No difference than people who turn to drugs, alcohol or violence. It took me a long time to accept that I was an addict. And that feeling emotions are normal.

I have relations twice my weight and more who, in all honesty eat less than I do. People are quick to judge by looks. There is a great mystery about metabolism. I’ve always felt the same feelings as them, but for the opposite reason. I’m very tall 192cm and I ve always been skinny and I identify so much with what they felt and their nervousness about being out amongst people, especially kids and teenagers because, (and I was born in England) in the uk, I think people in general are far more likely to pass personal comments, shout out insults than other countries populations do. I think it’s because there’s a big feeling that you can take “the Micky” out of another person because it’s “all trying to be the funny and make yourself look big” which I’ve since learnt is just “chavvy” and people who have any intelligence about them, don’t have to put other’s down to feel seen or noticed. I loved the way the group in this documentary were really “there” for one another and I loved that they weren’t going around trying to “challenge” anyone but just take their rightful space in society, not because they’re large, but because it’s there’s to take. There’s no reason for them to stay home, locked away from society, but I do think the people who would laugh or try to bully them ( because it IS bullying after all ) it’s “those Chavs” ( nothing to do with money or social position when I say Chavs ) it’s that mentality that must be replaced in society. We shouldn’t accept others being made to feel “less than” because some idiot decides it’s ok to mock a total stranger in order to make themselves look better, cleaver or whatever is missing from that person’s personality. To everyone who’s afraid to go out amongst strangers for fear of what might be said in order to humiliate them, remember it’s “not you” who is at fault here. We as a society must stop this sort of behavior happening when we see or hear it happening before us. Don’t smile out of fear or embarrassment and even better, stand up for your fellow man and stop public bullying!
