This documentary series follows the community of Jaywick in Essex, where more than half of the residents are living on benefits. High levels of unemployment have turned the once-thriving seaside village into one of the most blighted areas in the country. Cameras capture images of the Brooklands estate, a part of Jaywick that is highly deprived. Episodes show local resident Carl being evicted, landlords inspecting damage to their properties, and a former armed robber from London's East End living in a caravan that has heating problems.

Completely agree. Some people only have anxiety and depression when it's convenient for them while the real one's are suffering in silence unable to leave the house or take basic care of themselves where just making it out of bed in the morning is an achievement. The dryer they got for £80 is not the same size or quality as what we buy here in Canada. £80 = $143.68 in Canadian dollars as of February 3, 2025 and the drum is perhaps half the size of the one in my basement which has been going strong for 25+ years. I can’t remember how much I paid but it wasn’t new when I bought it. This episode first aired in March 2016 and was most likely filmed the preceding year of 2015.
