Truly Iconic! To see and hear a big boy on the Keddie Y must have been incredible. Got to see it up and close at the Roseville Yard, where it did a layover. Most excellent video. BRAVO! and huge thanks for the effort.

I know how you feel. I'm just climbing out of some physical health issues that mentally put me in the dump. These kinds of videos kept my mind off it. Years ago I got invited to go with some retired railway workers in a old private Pullman from Salt Lake City to feather River. $350 . I could not get off work. So I traveled in my mind again for this video. I hope things work out for you.

Just watched this again, great footage and presentation! Hope you got your shot at the tunnel today near Colfax. We headed back to Auburn to find it, but there were too many cars backed up at the narrow street where it was stopped, we gave up and continued on to Nevada City.

Were you the guy with the triple camera setup at Keddie? The angle suggests you were right next to us (my partner and I were the ones in the black/white jacket and the orange vest respectively down at the end of the trail above the tunnel).

In order to recoup some of the costs the steam locomotives will haul small manifest revenue freight when deadheading without a passenger consist between major yards

@kempmt1 the freight is just for show, it's max speed is 80 mph but they only run it to 60 mph now.

@@russcudney1469 You peaked my curiosity and found that diesel are subject to emission standards (with some exceptions). However, historic steam locomotives are exempt from the standards both Fed and CARB (to the best that i can find). I know, that doesn’t mean that nobody will complain. That said, I believe that the Big Boy has been converted to oil, which should be better than coal.
