Nice loco and your sound is excellent. When I was a child in the 195-s my dad acquired a UP color publicity photo of a Big Boy and it followed me through several bedrooms as I grew up. I never thought that I would actually see a Big Boy running, and then came 2019! After the 150th Anniversary, they sent the 4014 through Nebraska and I have been able to see it (and chase it) several times. It is certainly worth experiencing! I think you will enjoy any chance you get to see it in action. Trivia: last year UP 4014 was to move west after a PR tour and a manifest rainstalled on the hill just west of Blair, NE. Ed Dickens eased the 4014 forward and pushed the stalled train over the hill! In the videos one can hear the Big Boy doing just what it was intended to do - moving freight over grades. As the steamer passes one can hear the accompanying SD70M was still idling, the 4014 was doing the work.

I'm sure it is expensive, but it sure would be nice to see an Amtrak train running on the layout being pulled by a couple of Bachmann Chargers. I really enjoy your videos and appreciate how you explain your progress. Thanks Daryl. Keep em coming. Dave

Very nice, we went to Scranton PA -Steamtown National historic site back a few years ago. Right now they are doing a extensive restoration on it. This one not so glossy yet 😊.

I’m planning on building Cheyenne yard and roundhouse and I had a tough time tracking down the first 5 they put out in 2022 so I preordered the 5 regular numbers they put out for 2024 with sound and keep alives so now I have 10 of them and now I’m starting to buy my track. They really are beautiful. After they fixed the problems with the paragon 3s for the Paragon 4s BLI recommendation was to not put them on to a track that was powered already. If possible put them on a track without power and then turn on the power. Great purchase and review, thanks. She looks great on your layout.

Can I ask where you got the ESU decoder with the sound files? Trying to do something similar with a big boy, was curious where you got yours

Lombard Hobbies has then and will load it with the big boy sound file before shipping it out.

I couldn't find a way to open my yellow tender to add weight so I just drilled a hole in one end and pured a bunch of BBs in there along with so glue to hold them in place. I didn't realize of the truck was held in place until the next day. The truck was glued in position. I had to cut the king pin off then drill out the bottom of the tender and replace the king pin on the tender with solid plastic rod then split it so it would expand open in the hole through the bottom of the tender. All good now and it tracks very well plus the rear light decoder still works.

Beautiful loco, ive got 2 paragon4 engines from bli. I like the sound, and the up fef-3 has a smoking whistle with it which is a nice bonus.

Does your Class light and Number boards work on the locomotive with the ESU decoder?

Class lights work, but not the number boards. I don't think the number boards are lit as they are not referred to in the manual

Yes this locomotive looks great and sound good. I was lucky to join your live of the Big Boy 4014. Do you thing you can run a large amount of cars behind it because of its weight and traction tires? Both the BigBoy and the 4-8-4FEF I have from Rivarossi build around 1980s and the sound of the motor and gears will drown out any sound card I put in. The ESU sound decoder was detected easily by your computer program, you showed on another video, and easy to get ready to run the train?

Awesome locomotive! One issue is that it IS synchronized, but it isn't producing the double chuff sound like the real big boy does.

I have a question about how well ESU worked with a stealth locomotive. I preordered a stealth challenger from BLI for my steam fleet, and I’m wondering how the lighting functions work. Could you put together a list of the default function buttons (just the ones that turn on any lights) and say what lights they turned on? Thanks! Also, (you may have already done this) if you set CV 163 to 8, that should be the accurate whistle for 4014. (Found that out on the ESU website)

looks good everything sounds except the whitsle its not deep enough and also the golden spike is at promatory summit and there is no track between Ogden and the golden spike park
