I remember as a kid getting to see 4014 when it was still laying dormant at Pomona, and getting to climb in through the stoker's hatch and stand inside the firebox. That was quite incredible, realizing the area where the fire burned was almost the size of a small room lol.

My dad started on the Great Northern Railway in the early 1950. He would tender the Steamers in the yard in Breckenridge MN and worked his way up the ladder. He lived on a farm By Foxhome Mn. 13 miles awayAnd he said you could hear them leaving the Yard when heading south on there way to Willmar Mn. And a few years later they where getting replaced. He said he seen miles of steams and tenders on the siding waiting to be scraped. When I hear the big boy giving a salute I think of my dads 45 year career on the railroad.
