@@hawkeyeten2450 that one is even more unmistakable as it was modified when it was still in service to sound different as an experiment. 844 and 4014 have the same base whistle, but you can hear they sound different.

I seriously didn’t believe that steam locomotives would be activated again. It’s good to see them running, especially the ‘Big Boy’. And to hear its whistle!

One doesn't really get a sense of how massive these locomotives are until one rolls by, or you see the crew members walking around one doing maintenance work. Hop to see you at Summer Steam Train in Lebanon, OH this August, also hope the cold gets better too.

The title suggest that 4014 is faster than 844, in a 50 mile sprint 844 would have 4014 covered by 20 miles lol 844 is a true High Ball train and the closest thing to the majestic "Wabash Cannonball" remaining on God's Green Earth.... Here’s a story I’ve actually been on the 844 loco before, one early Morning in Rock Springs WY I couldn’t sleep so I went down to see the loco, I got to hop in and blow the whistle, far the best time in my life

PokeyRailFanning think about the weight of their tenders. These aren’t little 4-4-0 shunting engines. These are 4-8-4 and 4-8-8-4- passenger and freight engines. If they would’ve done a 4-0-4 tender it may have buckled under its own weight.

Brian, wow just wow! I'm in Denver and there were rumors that the 4014 was going to pay us a visit but didn't happen. It did get on the track out of Cheyenne that leads to Denver but didn't make it very far across the border before it turned around. We do see the 844 here from time to time. Glad you were able to make the trip west for this huge historic time for UP and all railfans!

2:35 to 2:45: The most iconic moment of American railway Videos. Two great American giants pass each other, and you can see both of them. To top it all there is no diesel in sight. This is a great video. I have to say that UP have really worked hard with their preservation efforts. This is something that I would have loved to see if I ever visit the US.

Union Pacific is by far the best run railroad in America and one of my most profitable stocks. They also know that remembering our railroad history is very important.

Camera audio cuts down a bit, it's very loud trust me, when they are at speed it's louder because of all of that excess air displacement in the wake behind the train. It's truly insane.

I liked this video. Love steam engines. It looked like some of the pilot wheels on both locos were intermittently turning. Tell the crews they need to grease their bearings better.
