fitted these to my 09 Saab 93 1.8t modified. Sourced the calipers second hand/nearly new, new grooved/drilled discs and quality linings....Superb. You may have more luck finding them second hand if you search ebay for Vauxhall vectra vxr or vectra 3.2i, both these cars up to around 2008 used this brake application.

I blame you.😁 . Due to your video, i've sourced a second hand set from a 9-3 Aero. i will clean them up and offer them up too my 2004 9-5 Aero. I'm hoping i won't need to buy spacers and extended bolts. I bought the same paint,but in the Neon Yellow ;)

Wish I could mount these to my OG 9-3... Either way I've been strongly considering going with 9-5 Aero calipers. The pad size is the same but it goes from the smaller 288mm rotor to the 308mm. I believe you can also upgrade the rear brakes to use the Aero's rear calipers as well for the og 9-3. I live in an area where the speed limit is 115km/h and I'd just feel safer with a bit more braking power. Also I have a 9-5 which has the 308mm rotors, you can tell that the braking is actually quite a bit better than the 288mm ones. Pretty crazy considering the 9-5 is heavier than the og 9-3, I'm sure on the 9-3 they'd provide really decent braking.
@TrionicSeven7 жыл бұрын
You don't think these can be mounted to the og9-3? Could it be that the og9-3 has the same mounting ears as the 98-01 9-5?
@pippaengroda7 жыл бұрын
yeah the mountings are the same as the early 9-5:s. You can mount these brakes if you really want to though. Im running 314mm on my og-93. to mount these you need to make an adapter, and also modify the caliper holders and the mounting ears on the spindle carrier.

Simon, would you please elaborate more? I have 1999 white Troll 95 where I want 314mm brakes. I have rotors and calipers like these heere in video, which I brought from saab festival this year only to find out this will be an impossible job to do. If you know the way, please help. Thanks.

Currently front brakes are upgraded only. For the future I'll do the rears as well, probably 300mm vented.

Look for a kit or 2ndhand parts that fit Saab 9-3 03on or Vectra C. those calipers look very similar to the 314s I've got on my 9-3SS but I can't be sure.

@pappabagge7 жыл бұрын
Hi again Jonathan. Interesting to see the story unfold, literally. How are you proposing to solve the matter of the rotor dust shields for the upgrade? I assume you realise you may well have to upgrade the shields as well, and this as far as I'm aware involves having to remove the entire wheel bearing, involving some very sweaty work with E18 and E20 torx bolts, and even resorting to a sawn-off traffic sign post as a lever arm, removing the existing shields and then replacing them with larger sized ones. At least this is the case on the 9-5, where my biggest problem on my forthcoming re-upgrade to a 345mm system is sourcing the right sized shields. I've recently replaced bearings on a friend's 9-5 2005 Aero and that took two whole days and a lot of innovative thinking instead of the 2 hours I'd budgetted. But I'm only an aircraft technician...
@TrionicSeven7 жыл бұрын
Hey there! I have been discussing this topic with my local expert (Simon K) who has done the same mod to his cars. My plan is to use the angle grinder and the big hammer to "tweak" the shield a little. It seems like that will be enough :) Removing and/or replacing the shields is too big of a job for me as I know exactly how hard it is to remove the driveshafts... Nice to see that you are going to 345mm. I have been doing some research and I did think "Hm...345mm wouldn't bee too bad on the Raven!" :) I'm just a physicist btw ;)

:D English: Wow, that's not a bad kit. I myself upgraded my std 9-5 to 308mm and painted my calipers too. Really satisfied with the result. I just hope you use a good protective mask and clothes that cover your skin when painting, 2k paints are to take seriously dealing with! Looking forward to the next video. : D

Thanks! Yes, the brake upgrades on the Saabs are quite cheap and give great results. Don't worry, I've worked a lot with plastics and 2k chemicals so I'll use protection.

I reply in English, as this seems to be a frequent question. Another viewer has recommended the following upgrade for the og9-3: Front - upgrade to 308mm rotors, uses your existing calipers - Caliper Carrier - 1999-2001 9-5 Aero (or 3.0t?) or Viggen - Backing Plate - 45 67 749 ’98-2001 9-5. - Larger 308mm rotors from 9-5 1999-2001 or Viggen - Pads from 9-3 Rear - upgrade to dual/vented rotors, 300mm - Calipers from 9-5 2002-2005 Aero (or 9-5 3.0t with vented disks) - Rear Lines - either the Genuine Saab upgrade line kit. - 9-5 rotors 2002-2005 Aero - double, vented - Pads from 9-5 - Backing plates from 9-5 2002-2005 Aero or modify yours to fit large calipers.

I have 314mm on my "Black Hole" 93 SportSedan Aero 2003 and braking power is just awesome (also because the powerbraking "helper" system is stronger than on 93 and more aggressive and big difference is also 93SS is lighter than 95 wagon). Unfortunately for me, 95 before facelift, so 1998 1999 2000 2001 model years, can't be upgraded to this brake kit without replacing shocks and wheel mount etc from post-facelifted version. So my 2 95 Wagons (black 2001 Aero and 1999 white Troll) will have to use only standard Aero brakes (yes I'll have to upgrade Troll from SE brakes to Aero) because I don't want to chance stock Aero nor Hirsch suspension I have on them and spend even more money. The only other option is go for the adapters on brake calipers (these 314 ones - those are mostly 93 V6 Aero BTW, with exception for 2003 mostly) and fit 345mm brake rotors from TurboX, which will finally fit over the suspension and mounting, etc. But that's overkill which I'll most probably won't go for. Maybe one day on Troll, when I decide to go from lpt Troll (220ps) to R one = 305ps.
@PeterChomanic7 жыл бұрын
For 314mm you can fit 16" mm wheels with offset (ET) 41 that are used on NG93 as a standard. 17" will fit even the ET35 ones (like original OG95 Aero wheels - kingons or whatever else). For 345mm brakes you can use 17" wheels as well, but they need to be ET41 already (or wider 7,8J or even wider Hirsch 6 spoke wheels).
@TrionicSeven7 жыл бұрын
Black Hole, is that where the money goes? ;) It is possible to fit the 314mm kit on og9-3 and older 9-5. Several people have been discussing this (esp Simon/pippaengroda) in the comments to this video, you just have to do some manual work.
@PeterChomanic7 жыл бұрын
Black Hole has money meaning, sure, but it is Black and has literally holes in metal panels. Whatever :D will explain one when I'll feature in your video :D Going to find comments about 314mm on og95, because I really seen no reasonable solution so far.
@PeterGregorc6 жыл бұрын
Are you sure you don't need any spacers on 17" for 314mm? I have Alu62 wheels (saabarchive.net/index.php/w/wg/wheels/alu62) and it looks like I'll be needing 3 or 5mm spacers
