The final chapter in my big brand budget battle series, this time its distortion pedals. If you are the same age as me you remember distortion being the first genre of pedals you became aware of, in fact you probably called all pedals 'distortion pedals'. I think I might need to revisit distortion pedals in my personal playing life because these are honestly a lot of fun. The Maestro delivers heavy 90s style distortion, the JHS barky vintage 70s/80s sounds with a hint a RAT lineage, and the Fender feels like some kind of early 2000s rectified monster amp.

Should have turned the gate off when the gain was all the way down, I'm guessing that was killing the natural decay. Love the JHS pedals look, love the generic supermarket brand 80-90's look... But not a fan of how they sound.

The 3 Series is basically a Rat circuit, Josh just can't decide if it's a clone or a variant. It's fun to pair it with a boost (Bad Bob) to achieve ultimate chugga chugga. Also, props for the Local H riff.

I think this might be controversial but for my use, the Maestro is what I would go with. I would like to have the JHS though as a nice compliment for some not-so metal stuff! Great review as always!

All three are good. I felt like the JHS was more “vintage” voiced and the other two were more modern gain sounds. Depends what you are trying to do. Also the Yamaha sounded much better.
