march-april 2020, it just feels like it never happened. looking back at pictures i took of empty shopping centres and main streets which are normally packed, it’s weird. watching this again made me feel anxious. we’ve come such a long way and in 5 years time, we’ll look back on this pandemic and wonder how on earth we survived it mentally. it’s been horrible but the worst is over in australia.

I know I'm late to the party but MAN is the editing awful! I'm Australian but I hadn't seen this clip. I'd seen some other versions of the show where the news about this was being broken. I'm not a BB fan but having unsuspecting people receive news like this is by far the most interesting thing about it. I still remember the early days when they broke the news of 9/11. That footage holds up. In 20 years, when people look back to this time, the BB canada clip is going to hold up too. It's history. We're talking about the worst pandemic in many generations, but I guess that wasn't dramatic enough. No- let's not see them quietly reflect in horror at how fast moving this terrible world changing virus is. Let's pump it up with DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN!!!!! Wow now people will know it's serious! Way to fuck up the only good television you ever could have made BBaus. It was literally handed to you on a platter but oh well.

They weren’t overreacting, this is how we all felt in the beginning. A lot of people thought it was going to be way worse. EDIT: So I've been getting some comments saying that COVID is way worse than anyone thought, the answer, simply put, is NO. There was a previous SARS virus in 2003, that killed 10% of the infected, but it was contained. I've left more info in a comment down below about an NCBI study. As I've said in a post below, is COVID-19 Hell? Yes. Are there different layers to hell? Yes. Things could have been much worse.
@circe...
@circe... 3 жыл бұрын
Huh? No, I think in the beginning people thought is was going to be NOTHING, just something passing through. It turned out to be WAY WORSE. No one imagined 700,000 Americans dying (millions worldwide) and still counting. This is worse.

@Reluctant.Idealist 3 жыл бұрын
@@circe... we could have different experiences 🤔 where I was at, everyone thought this was the apocalypse, ordering gas masks, preparing for off-the-grid living, just completely losing their minds. You didn’t experience the hysteria? There was even scientists who feared it would kill 10%+ of the population. If you research SARS viruses in general, some in the past were much more deadly. It’s absolutely horrific that so many people have died and suffered, and I’m not trying to diminish that at all. But it’s important to acknowledge it hasn’t been to level that some experts were predicting. Let’s just hope things start to get better from here.
@Reluctant.Idealist

@@DrBased123 Actually, it’s not a fraud. It almost killed my mom’s best friend, and I know people who’ve died from it. I can only speak from personal experience, but I, at 24, had just finished running a half marathon in the summer. I am healthy, my diet is clean, and I got COVID on August 14th, could barely breath, and had a 102/103 fever for almost 10 days. I couldn’t eat, I could barely drink, and I’m still recovering. It’s real and horrific, but it’s not at the level of an apocalypse, as some people predicted in the beginning.

Unfortunately, here in the "good old USA" we like to be number one in everything, including COVID-19 cases. I think we're approaching four million. This video got me curious if there will be Big Brother in the U.S. this year, although I don't watch it (bored of the show). A quick search indicates yes, with the contestants going into a two-week quarantine starting in late July before production starts. Hopefully that keeps Coronavirus from being an issue, although there are no guarantees the virus can sneak in.

It’s interesting looking back and watching people’s reactions when learning about the pandemic. It seems so silly now but back then we knew barely anything, it was terrifying. I had one friend that was freaking out because they thought it was going to come to New Zealand and we were all reassuring him that wouldn’t happen. Then Italy went into lockdown and part of me genuinely felt like it might be the start of the end, that everyone in Italy was a goner. Thank god I was wrong.

The manipulative, science-illiterate news media did a great job of misrepresenting public health data to lead people to believe a SARS-CoV2 infection was far deadlier than it actually was. I recall major news networks suggesting the infection fatality rate was as high as THIRTY-PERCENT (it is actually less than 0.2% for the general population). They also refused to inform people that the virus had a similar risk profile to the flu for the vast majority of people under the age of 70. It was an astonishingly stupid and ignorant time to be alive. I will never forget it.

Why is it 'cringe'?
@christinagarza2429
@christinagarza2429 10 ай бұрын
What’s most “cringe” about it is the fact that a “case” isn’t even a useful public health metric in this context. A case is merely an instance in which a person tested positive for SARS-CoV; it doesn’t necessarily mean they have Covid, which is the actual DISEASE associated with SARS-CoV illness. This is especially important to understand considering more than 80% of those who do test positive for the virus report very mild symptoms or no symptoms at all. The obsession over “cases” was truly one of the most idiotic aspects of Covid mania.

This big brother sucks. The voice sucks, the music and sound effects are awful, the people on it suck because all they care about is getting famous on social media. They'd do bettr if they tried to emulate older seasons of big brother, like the 2000s.

I lived in LA when Covid started. Im still recovering from it all. The anxiety that having to leave your house gave you was immense. It didn't help that I was doing a call center for people asking about the eviction ban.... constantly hearing the worst stories about how a family member died or how a person was sleeping on the ground in front of their home because their landlord illegally locked them out. Then I had to do contact tracing.... which made me sink into pretty bad depression. I regularly thought about killing myself because of doing that. The worst was when you had to call a case that was so young... babies and toddlers even. Their poor parents were so drained. I still cry about all we lost... all the people, the personal progress... it wrecks me.

I am so, so, sorry. I can only imagine what it was like to be on the end of a phone call, wanting to reach out and help people in their most desperate moments, but being unable to do much of anything. I hope you find strength in the knowledge that you certainly must have helped a lot of people, even though you couldn't see it with your own eyes.
