The next review will either be Top Gun 1 or another game show documentary, I haven't decided.

Have you watched the McMillions documentary? It's surprisingly good.

@@danielcurry1695 I have not, but it looks interesting. I might check it out, since I've been looking for a new doc series.

Oh interesting. I'd heard this story before but didn't know there was a documentary about it. Good review!

Indeed, I'm always interested in stories about weird, somewhat obscure dudes who did something incredibly odd in their life. I'd like to think there's a line connecting Larson, Gary Suiter and Harry R. Truman.

This documentary was actually a huge deal in the game show world when it first aired for a lesser-known reason: after his two episodes aired for the first time in 1984, CBS completely barred the episodes from ever airing in syndicated re-runs throughout the years. This documentary was the first time these episodes had ever been aired since their first run!

Yep. I think for a while, this doc was the highest rated program in the history of the network, which is why it's curious they refuse to make it available. (Not that it's hard to find, ofc)

@@velodus maybe they got shit on for how they portrayed him, as you pointed out, and they view it as an embarrassment?

A documentary about a microcosm of the real American dream, being small, coming into a field with an odd set of rules, and absolutely dominating in a way no one ever has or will again. The kind of story people like Elon musk like to act like they are.

And the fact that his story also ends with him completely losing it all thanks to greed also feels uniquely American.

The biggest crazy is that he's 36 going on 56 in that game show

Michael Larson would have been an excellent consultant for Michigan football.
