Interview with Max tiger. Max: Am I happy to call BCR home? Why didn't I show the same enthusiasm as Simba did when I first arrived here? Well, I was disoriented ... confused. It was PTSD, having suffered for so long in the hands of horrible humans in Guatemala. I never knew humans could be kind and generous until I came here. Some humans, out of ignorance, say all big cats should live free in the wild. Well, a tiger raised in captivity like me wouldn't be able to survive in the wild. Here, I have food, lots of space to wander around and medical care. It ain't peachy in the wild what with habitat loss, human-animal conflicts, and poaching getting worse than ever. Big cat numbers are dwindling ... from 100,000 lions in the wild a century ago, there are now about 20,000; an estimated 7,000 cheetahs and only 5,000 tigers. Iconic animals we may be but we are not safe from the destructive nature of humans. So, yes, I am thankful for being able to call BCR home! 🐅🐈🐇
