The Yonge-Dundas area has been the busiest neighbourhood in Toronto for a very long time. Over 25 years ago, I used to go there to browse at Sam The Record Man and The World's Biggest Bookstore. Both are long gone. There used to be many porno magazine/video stores along Yonge St and the original Eaton's Dept Store in the Mall. All gone. Thanks for the updates on all the changes.

The square - whatever you want to call it is the embodiment of Toronto malaise. It's the most depressing slab of concrete surrounded by the most sterile grey/blue glass boxes. What is it with Toronto and just not being able to design anything nice?

Oh, so that's what happened to the Future Shops! Didn't know that Best Buy bought them out. A many years-long mystery finally solved for me. Anyway, only been in that building once to meet a friend for a movie but I don't remember the food court looking that drab or I may be mis-remembering it.

Yonge and Dundas is pretty much downtown Canada, so I think the name should reflect Canadian or Toronto history. I mean if they made a park or square in a neighbourhood with a large population from Ghana, then that'd be really cool to see. But Yonge and Dundas is one of the most famous places in Canada and has an established name. If Yonge or Dundas have become problematic, then name it after a different Yonge or Dundas and save the money.

Hi Johnny, your narrative today on Dundas square while continuously panning around was fantastically honest and also the same sentiments as all other Toronto residents. I don't agree with any name changes to our history. I'm especially bothered by them quietly railroading a new name through. And lastly the fact that we missed the opportunity to at least pay homage to our Toronto history with an appropriately historical local renaming. Wokeness at its finest!!!

Henry Dundas was an active politician from the 1770s to the early 1800s, when the British parliament was debating slavery abolition motions. There is a dispute surrounding Dundas's role in the propagation of the slave trade.

I have mixed feelings about the Tenor. If they carved it up into smaller stores it would be better. Also, if they put a coffee shop in the corner of the 2nd floor (where the Winners is now), it would resemble Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo.
