Such a peaceful video again. Thank you. As an elderly woman who loves gardening, the easiest way to dig a hole is to drench the soil for an hour or two beforehand. It turns a backbreaking job into something ridiculously easy. Of course it won't soften rocks lol.
@deeoh3708 Жыл бұрын
As another older gardener, I totally agree with you. Also another trick is when you do get a bit of a hole dug, keep filling it with water... and wait, let the water do the softening for you. Sorry you have such rocky ground though.

A fun tipp: Next time you make a boring flooring (I always find it exciting to see it growing) - place the icecream pot in the middle of the room, on the finished wood, and allow yourself to have a spoon whenever you come across that point with new boards. ;) Than it is a task super quick done and you have more enjoyment with it.

The reason for the baseboard is to cover the small gap one should leave between flooring and wall to allow for the wood to expand and contract...which it will do seasonally. so if you don't remove the baseboard, and you lay the boards tightly up against it, you run the risk of your floor boards buckling or cracking.

What a nice place, what a lovely company! Just please be aware of all the moose, roe deers, rabbits & whatnot who have already marked down in their notebooks the new young fruit trees and will surely make a move on them as the winter advances ... Even mice would love to gnaw the young peel under a layer of snow. I have lost several young trees in my life, i still feel some pain when it comes to mind. But as you seem to be much more careful and neater person than me, you probably already have a solution to this peril. 💚💚💚

Seeig that fallen birch tree and the big logs I would use couple of them as bench seats around a campfire. You can peel the bark and let the logs dry under a loose tarpaulin to keep them dry, and next summer they would be nice seats in the garden 😊 All those stones that were dug up from your orchard would be useful in creating a firepit. Gravel underneath and around it and it wouldn't be a fire hazard. In the summer evenings nothing beats sitting around a campfire. The smoke keeps the mosquitos away 😅

It's easier to lay the floor if you remove the skirting boards before (you don't need to cut the floor pieces so carefully in length, since the floor ends will be hidden under the boards)
@Farlig69 Жыл бұрын
Came here to write the same thing, also the point of the skirting boards allow you to leave and cover a gap from the ends of the floorboards to the wall which allows for thermal expansion & contraction of the boards.

The house we bought once had so many fruit trees, all grown up, a mature garden. For some reason, the previous owners just cut everything down and the whole plot was just a big grass lawn when we moved in several years ago... So incredibly boring. Slowly we are planting in trees again. I found it a bit more rewarding to buy a few fruit trees that actually already had a bit of age, 6 y/o, when they were delivered last year. Because they are bearing fruit this year already. 🥰 While the very first apple tree we planted 9 years ago took a good few years before yielding anything.

I love the garden portions of your videos too. I suspect your mum enjoys them too in working with you ;-) I've learnt about an extremely useful herb called comfrey. A healing salve is made with it medicinally, and it is good food for livestock as well as fertilizer for soil in your garden. The root goes down about 10' and draws in many minerals and nutrients into itself. As I've been learning, two patches of it grew up. One in an old flower bed and one bordering my compost pile! I will make the salve first since my ingredients have come in. Plantain and lemon balm are next. Lemon balm is on it's way out so will harvest now hoping for a second harvest. I love its tea.
