Those blackberries probably come back they are really hard to kill we had a wildfire burn ours and Surprise they came back. So sorry you lost your tree, but now you have new space for some new things to grow on your homestead! Blessings! Wendy❤️🐞🐝

I hope the blackberries come back, but it depends on how much damage the bulldozer did to the roots! I'm going to miss that big oak tree, but there is a young Persimmon tree growing nearby that will now have room to grow. I think I'd rather have the fruit!

It definitely feels good to get old trees out. Once we had 13 trees fall in a day at the time my neighbor was kind enough to move them all!

I wish I were about 30 years younger with the energy to go with it. I was thinking about you the other day looking at the strip of trees behind the chicken coop and wondering what kind of mushrooms might grow there!

Gramma Rose's Homestead well if you put a few raised beds in you can grow several different types. Wine caps, buttons, bluwits. Also if you can get morels and make a slurry and have a bed of them. Most others need actual wood logs to grow.

Hello Ms Rose, If you don’t think you can handle putting a garden of that size in that field, how about offering it to a small organization (church, girls scouts) or someone you know and trust in trade for a bit of produce. A lot of people want to grow food right now and many don’t have the property or space. Great idea of the arbor for the grape vines!😉 Thank you for sharing an update, be well! 😉💗

If I hadn't been down on my hands and knees trying to get a chick back in the brooder or even if I had been on my hands and knees but had been over to the right about 6 inches, I'd have been a statistic. It's sobering. There are some blackberries growing on another part of the property, so I need to start taking care of them a bit better to get more berries. I might add some thornless bushes too - it'd be nice to be able to pick blackberries in a short sleeved shirt and bare handed!

Not yet. We decided to wait until this fall when it was cooler and more pleasant to work outside to finish it.

Wow! If I could afford a big High Tunnel Greenhouse, that would be the perfect place for it. Raised beds too! As it is, a small Grower's Solution "Hobby Greenhouse" is already going up closer to the house.

How about a couple of small to medium raised beds in the newly opened area. You could get an idea if you wanted to plant more then usual. All the things in your yard are so like my own. I guess gardeners need their stuff. Lol. Laura

How are the baby chicks? They must be quite big now. That area seems huge now.😁
@GrammaRosesHomestead4 жыл бұрын
The baby chicks are about half grown. They're still cute and still have their chick voices - cheeps instead of clucks. The area does look huge. The main reason is that the fence dividing the field into two paddocks and blocking the view is down.

How do you collect Goldenrod and how do you use it? I finally have two beauties that the bumble bees just love.
@GrammaRosesHomestead4 жыл бұрын
You need to collect flowers when they're just beginning to open to keep the pretty yellow color because if you wait until they're fully open, when they dry, they'll puff up like a dandelion. Leaves should be fresh-looking and not bug-eaten or diseased. Be sure not to take them all, but leave some to continue photosynthesizing and for the insects. You can dry them either by hanging small bunches to dry away from sunlight in a well-ventilated spot or in a dehydrator at a low setting. Amy Fewell published an excellent video on Goldenrod just last week. I'd recommend watching that. She did a really good job. It's good for sinus congestion, UTI, wounds, and digestive issues, particularly diarrhea, and lots more. It can be taken as a tincture or infusion (tea) or as a poultice. In fact, people drink it just because it tastes good and not for the medicinal benefits. Here's a good article to read before you go watch Amy! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nai7o5J_fJh_irs&ab_channel=AmyFewell-TheFewellHomestead
