Call them kids bikes, play bikes, family bikes, or trail bikes... We call them the gateway to motorcycling. Honda has taken the CRF110F, CRF125F, and all new CRF250F and brought them into the future with EFI and other important updates. Thanks to Kelly Yancey of Kelly Yancey Motocross Training who graciously loaned us three of her best students for the day.

If American Honda (and other Japanese mfg) had a brain it it's head - they would offer youth and young adult motocross bikes - not just beginner recreational bikes. This concept is about establishing "brand loyalty". And when a young kid who wants a "racing bike" but Honda does not offer one (the CRF150R doesn't count because almost no child rides it) has to defect to another brand - there is a good chance Honda will never get that potential motorcycle owner back (years later.) Make a CR50, CR65, CR85, CR100, CR125, etc (two-strokes, mind you, because they are far cheaper to build and easier to maintain.) Make these bikes and keep a buyer for LIFE. It is so simple it is comical. Notice mfg like Husqvarna, KTM, and other european brands offering ALL youth size racing bikes as well as adult-size bikes (both two-stroke and four-stroke.) It's not that difficult of a concept. And there is no debating this. WAKE UP, HONDA SUZUKI KAWASAKI!!! Get your head out of your ever-loving ass!

@@sxcko-_-8852 Ummm... wow. ok, what is a 5 year old, 7 year old, 9 year old ride then (if they aren't ready for an 85 but are too much for a beginnner's bike .) Where's the RM50, RM65, RM100? They have none. Duh, we know they have an RM85. Almost no kid rides it though. I'm at the tracks all the time. Pretty much no Suzukis out there. And no young children out there either.
@HorsepowerHouse
@HorsepowerHouse 4 жыл бұрын
@@19hundoc47 Sounds like the CEO's are the clueless ones. How do they plan to get young people involved in this activity if they only offer a (Suzuki, for instance:) DRZ50, DRZ70, then straight up to the RM85........ and that's all they have for young people. Simply ridiculous - and Suzuki are not serious about attracting new riders (it starts when they are young...) All of these young children end up going to KTM, Husky - MAYBE Yamaha - but even Yamaha has a very limited youth motocross line-up (YZ65, YZ85 is all they have).

I'm curious why there is not an air cooled R version available with light weight titanium frame on all the CRF line up from the 50cc on up... The simplicity and reliability of the old XRs are real... Can't believe Honda stopped the model presence in the USA. CRFs just got fuel injection and have electric start aside from the little 50cc. Honda acts like good suspension and light weight bikes don't matter for the trail bike line up. And why don't all the CRF at least come with quick plug and play for a head light and brake light for good night time trail capabilities. And the rear fender pouch is classic XR which the new trail bike CRFs did not carry over... What a shame... And last the quick airfilter access was also key to XR fans which was not carried over to the CRF trail bike line up... Again where is an R version of all these air cooled trail bikes with a titanium frame, Enduro front and rear lights, rear fender bag, better more adjustable front and rear suspension, quick access side airfilter access, etc? I'm in my mid 50's, been riding dirt for a long, long time...in fact, rode amateur MX in the '80's, when I was much younger. Well, now I have Grandchildren...so, I bought a used CRF110, and a brand new CRF250F. It's a blast. It won't be raced, but for riding in the Black Hills of South Dakota, it's going to be perfect! I imagine it will last many, many years as well...and, I got a decent deal from my local dealer....less than $5100 out the door. I waited when I heard they were coming out with the EFI, and I'm pleased that I did.

Why can’t the youth have a legit enduro lineup of bikes that are lightweight, electric start, have reasonable clearance and suspension with a headlight and a backup kick starter with all the other goodies we big people like? @wednesdar452
@wednesdar452 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry to be a contrarian here, but I completely disagree with your take on these bikes. Far from being "the future" these bikes are a step backwards for the end user. Yes, they are "green sticker compliant trail bikes," but that's not much to get excited about. These "updated, modern" bikes are just heavier and more-complicated-to-work-on versions of their former selves. As a parent of two children who has been forced to go the BBR/TB Parts route to build green-stickered 4T bikes with decent power, components and suspension for my kids, I feel these manufacturers are behind the times and completely missing the market. Heck, an old CR 80 could absolutely smoke any of these bikes, and it certainly didn't weigh 200 lbs like the new CRF 125 does. Where are the kid-sized 4T motocross bikes with decent power and suspension for a kid who knows how to ride? Where are the bikes preparing kids for modern racing, which is pretty much entirely done on 4 strokes? How is it that the only company making a 4T kids' bike with disk brakes, good suspension, etc. is Pitster Pro? Why aren't any of the major brands trying to make a 4T to compete with the 2T KTM 50's, 65's and 85's?

For a trail bike these are right on the mark. They are made for trails not race. Of course the 2 stroke race bike is going to beat it but it's apples and oranges. As with the old XR's these bikes are made for Trail riding with low maintenance intervals and dead on reliability.
@wednesdar452
@wednesdar452 5 жыл бұрын
@@imyourhuckleberry357 Look, I get that these are made to be dead reliable and to putter for the rest of time. Heck, my XR100 from when I was a kid still runs wonderfully! All I'm saying is that the world has progressed since I bought that bike 30 years ago, but these bikes really have not. Look at mountain bikes. Would you be satisfied if the companies were releasing heavier, "more reliable" versions of the same hardtail Stumpjumper? Heck no. Kids today are sending it on full suspension squishy bikes down trails we couldn't have dreamed of riding back then. Am I admitting here that my 8 year old is already a better dirt biker than I was when I was 14... yeah, I probably am, but that's the way of the world. I just don't buy that it would be "too expensive" or too difficult for these guys to put out a couple of green-sticker, lightweight, small-framed bikes with a few extra cc's that a kid could ride on today's tracks and trails. There is just no way that the new crf125 "kids bike" should weigh essentially the same as my 300cc full size 4T Sherco!
