in regards to england and marrying your cousin, it's one of those things where just because it hasn't purposefully been made illegal doesn't mean it's a normal socially acceptable thing to do, we also consider it very weird 😂

This is my favorite episode y’all have ever done. The vibes were great. I loved what Cammie was saying about realizing that our partners should be the first person we defend, etc. Made me feel less alone bc I’ve had that same thought process too! Loved the reflections and loved y’all’s energy here ❤

For me it’s j the concept of family……I have “cousins” who aren’t related to me, but I was raised w them being called cousins and so even tho they aren’t related to me they fall under the umbrella of family which puts them just by default outside of my prospects (I’m married so there’s no prospects lol) but to take that even further, my wife’s cousins r now my cousins, so even if they died or we broke up………that’s my family lol. But not everyone feels that? I guess?

On the subject of why incest is... not great... outside of procreation... There might be this subconscious idea that because this person is related they're "safe"/not going anywhere regardless of what struggles any normal relationship goes through because with family there is this built in connection that keeps you tied regardless. But no relationship is truly impervious (let alone what a gay/going through a divorce relationship inherently Messy thing this would be.) If a relationship formed, it would be subject to the same stakes ANY romantic relationship is, including losing that person forever. And if you think not, WHY not? Two family members may also have grown up with one being an authority figure over the other and there's also all the baggage that goes with that being a formative aspect of the relationship. One person having been In Charge of the other from a young age. There's an inherent power dynamic built in there that isn't healthy. (This doesn't exactly apply to the person asking as they weren't raised together, but generally speaking.) Sort of in line with what Cammie said-- why this person, as opposed to someone outside your family unit? Why can you not relate to anyone else on that same level? We can experience deep love and appreciation that is platonic, not romantic/sexual, but it can definitely be possible appreciation for something on a different level. Conflating those feelings with a family member is something kids do, because that is who they're around the most and they don't have wider context for their strong feelings. There genuinely should be A Lot of people in the world who you can relate to, even at high levels. Do you have any deep/long standing platonic relationships that feel safe/secure the way a close family member does? Or is that actually a social skill that needs developed? Why this married person with a built in taboo? Is it possible there's an element of not wanting to pursue something with a real chance, because that protects you, in some ways from the pain of trying with someone who might have a more reasonable chance of reciprocating? I'm sure there's a couple of cousins out there who can answer all of this, but all of that is just... stuff to unpack.

There are a lot of people who experience Genetic Sexual Attraction In Adoption Reunion Relationships. There's no scientific theory behind it but a lot of anicdotal evidence of people who are related but didn't grow up together forming a sexual attraction to the relation they meet. Sounds like it could be something like that honestly. Our brains do not always act logically and often take short cuts. Our feelings are not always right or valid for us.
