One of the greatest experience of my life! We were so privileged to have Fred Hammond come to the uk for Big Church Day Out! As a musician, I've learnt so much from him and his music and was inspired to learn the bass and play during worship at different Churches. Big Up to the musicians and singers too as they were incredible! ~ Miss C. x x

because he changes it up so nice I normally feel more liberty playing his songs. my mind goes "ok learn it...cool, now explore the possibilities across the range of the bass articulation and phrasing wise...because when he does it live that's what he'll do"...when I play songs from other guys who don't change it up, I kindda feel like this is the only way they prefer to play it, 'cause they do it over and over and don't change it much...but Fred! man it's like he's saying "go ahead bro change it up"...God bless you Fred.

the snare was not "whack" its called variation and catering to a different demographics ear. Don't know if you guys noticed all the white brethren there. Usually who's ears are tuned more to the "rock" genre than the "jazz and funk". In the UK anyway, which is where the event was held.
@ahsanrogers9 жыл бұрын
Agreed. CCM music always has low tuned snares.
@BBT6099 жыл бұрын
You are on the money Jay and I agree with you. Calvin Rodgers knew what he was doing! I was like wow!! The snare will get the peoples ear as well.
@LTO11199 жыл бұрын
This is a good point with sound demographic. Me personally I need some crack in the snare.
@BBT6099 жыл бұрын
LTO1119 HAHAHA same here. My church that I play at has a new Maple 14" x 8" snare with a Remo Controlled Sound X head and it has a nice crack to it and it sounds like one that can be in a black church and its nice for funk groove, jazz and it imitates a piccolo snare. Now this church is predominately white and the music we play it more contemporary white praise and worship songs. There is some blackness in the music when we hit it lol. The snare I have has a good crack but at the same time a has a contemporary sound. You can play funk with it, jazz with it, and you can go fully rock on it. The snare I have Tama 14" x 6" with a Remo Controlled Sound head and it sounds amazing it any type of music.
@Jrm3849 жыл бұрын
Could not agree more. Demographics and understanding the crowd is also part of being a musician as well. Personally I think his drums are tuned to a lower register than what he usually plays. He only made Snoop sound better on the bass cause of the blending fills they were doing together.

Fred went hard as usual

That was the first thing I heard and was like what is up with his snare. But I guess he was playing for the demographic which is important. I think everyone is forgetting that front of house has the ability to EQ the sound to some degree as well.
@grandmasterotis9 жыл бұрын
Lol.. true and true. ...but youre right ...demographic is important.

Just for the record homie the artist specifies what equipment they want. The backline company supplies it for them

I wish they'd have more psalmists like Fred. They just have 2 or 3 black psalmists and thest is a variation of Elevation kind of worship. I just go because of the kids and company. I get that it may be the UK culture

that snare was whack...... but calvin killed it still.....
@BBT6099 жыл бұрын
Well, if you know about contemporary Christian music, a BIG snare is like a highlight and mainly is listened to by a predominant white culture. So Calvin just had to do what he did to the snare, make it sound big! lol. As a musician you do want to catch the listeners ear.
@law1320039 жыл бұрын
Sorry bros id have to highly disagree with u.. It's sounds good to me and it fits what we're doing very well. It's a mature sound ,brings the music full circle and also adds more emotional depth.
@jermainefrancis779 жыл бұрын
Lawrence Jones Exactly Lawrence its all the maturity of a musician. I know you guys play the same set of songs with different snare sounds or snares but because of the overall kit and demographic this snare adjustment just fits. That's why yourself, Calvin, snoop, and Phil are the professionals, not us.
@Moog1689 жыл бұрын
I don't know what you're hearing but that snare was full of body and it was in your face! Plus it was for more of a "Rock" demographic but that tuning could fit for any genre. And the snare wires were still tight on the drum. Also Calvin's snare was tuned like this for a few records prime example was Byron Cage's "Faithful to believe" record as well as Martha Munzzi's records. OPEN YOUR EARS and TUNING FAM! Quit tuning your snares up or tuning them low to copy Chris Dave lol.
@tobimedicdrums9 жыл бұрын
Lawrence Jones ***** Moog168 BBT609 thnk u guys...... at least i learnt something today..... :))))) i better go start getting used to a lot of snare tones then.... lool

The Lord our God doesn’t descend he’s Omnipresent. So whatever Fred claiming he feels would be another entity possibly demonic.
@mathematicianphd73954 жыл бұрын
give me a break! God is omnipresent, but his presence does not MANIFEST everywhere like it did at this concert; that was what fred was getting at..learn context clues instead of just mouthing off ur crass theology. Cheers mate!
