Why solder a diode instead of the defective LED? LEDs are available in all sizes inexpensively. Alternatively, they could also be taken from other defective devices.

Both the leds and the diodes (both are diodes) have polarity, so they should be mounted accordingly on the board, positive side of the diode/led to the positive side of the pad on the board, negative to negative. Otherwise they burnout and you are back where you've started. For me it works fine jut bridging the faulty leds, I remove them with a screwdriver, dremel is to aggressive you can remove the pads, then bridge soldier the now empty pads. The IC on the board will regulate the voltage for the missing leds.

Como a queda de tensão num diodo é 0.7 Volts e num led entre 2 e 5 Volts isto acada causando um aumento de tensão sobre os outros leds diminuindo a vida util. O ideal é substituir por leds equivalentes.

Good tip to make a LED soldering iron tip 👍 BTW New LEDs can be purchased. I glue them in place then solder them afterward, works well w/o the LEDs shifting out of place when soldering.

Ja przy okazji takich napraw zmieniam rezystor ustalający prąd, aby prąd płynący przez diody LED był mniejszy o około 10 %. Znacznie zwiększa to trwałość diod.

LEDs last longer than bulbs, but they have more parts and seem to be more prone to failure, probably because they draw too much current to get enough brightness. Just a guess.
