I would love it if all Carnival lines - Carnival, Costa, Princess, etc. shared the loyalty program so you could get credit on any of them, like Hotels do! You stay in any Hilton property, regardless of the brand, you get points for Hilton. So if I sail Carnival or Princess they should count toward each other.

Be careful what you wish for. Carnival often times can't honor the priority boarding/tendering or embarking because there are too many platinum members on board.

Dirty dishes in the pool area: YOU brought the plates out there with YOUR choice of food and YOU sat your butt on the lounger to eat. When YOU are finished it’s up to YOU to get up and make things right. It’s getting really irritating how people can’t “adult” anymore.

I used to think the same but having heard the many, many comments and views of servers, bussers etc. I now understand that what I thought was helpful (stacking dirty plates etc. and placing at the end of the table) actually more often is frustrating and unhelpful for the staff.

Interesting to note that it wasn’t just Oceania that came to the rescue. Passengers on board received a call for shoes and clothing for those rescued. One of those situations that definitely restores my faith in mankind during these turbulent times ❤

Once our cabin attendant moved our room service dishes to the hall when he did turndown. Since then i always pop them out to the hall.

I personally love NCL's loyalty program, especially starting at Platinum. You get two free specialty dining meals, a free bag of laundry, plus discounts on internet packages and shore excursions. A lot of other stuff too. I don't know if any other cruise line does it, but if you get to ambassador you can also get a free stateroom upgrade and then also a free 7 day cruise. I love NCL's program.

Cruising solo I made elite after 46 nights by doing a number of 2,3 & 4 night cruises back to back and side to side. Going solo automatically gives you 2 cruise points each time.

Unfortunately THATS where we have to put them when we receive room service. The room stuart's actually hate when dirty dishes are left in the rooms, it's a completely different crew that goes around collecting the dirty dishes from the hallways. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Yep it is what they want you to do; however, on rocky seas with narrow hallways, the trays slide. Then people trip over them due to the boat moving. It really causes a dangerous situation. Or people in scooters/wheelchairs can't get by.

@@joansarratt The room steward puts them in the hall when they do the room on most ships as this is how they have it set up. I wish they would install a station on each floor that is secured something like you see at panera bread and other fast food places where you can take them scrape your garbage, pull your recycle items and put the plates and cups in buckets. If they had secured wheelable racks the room service could come remove them and place clean racks in their place. Doesn't seem so hard to me, just they have to want to spend the money on it. The issue is if they want them placed in the hall they need to have regular checks to find them there.

For dishes in the cabin, yes, Disney and Royal both want you to leave them in the hall. That's where they go, just try not to put them in the path of people walking. Never seen it be a big deal on either of those cruise lines as they are generally pretty quick to come along and clean them up.

As far as dirty dishes, I never use room service, so that isn't an issue. I often have dirty dishes in the pool area. I have found that the attendants out there who serve drinks are always quick to take them away.

My loyalty goal is Diamond on Royal Caribbean. I'm going solo next April/May with a Transatlantic followed by Greek Isles. That will give me 42 points and we'll over what I need to achieve Diamond status. I'm not a big drinker, usually a couple a day on a ship, never at home. The 4 free drink per day will totally quench my alcohol thirst

At the buffet if there is a podium that has a dirty dish tub, which is often the case we set our dirty dishes in those usually able to find one near the pool area as well. Room service we put our tray outside our door and make sure it’s not pushed out into the hallway. I’ve seen on many cruises at like two in the morning. A little trolley comes through and is picking up all the dirty dishes.

Hi Toni. I’m a Norwegianer and when I took a cruise on the Jade, I noticed that most passengers were 80+ years old. I was 50 at that time, so I felt like a kid. The most extreme action events we saw on board were the throwing of beans and making animals with the towels. I guess the Jade being a smaller ship, attracts older passengers, I don’t know. But that was many years ago. Today might be different. And another note is that I am platinum on NCL and I get water, one laundry bag, a few discounts on stuff and 2 specialty dining for 2. So it’s cheaper to buy those things than taking 12 cruises !!!! Ah … and there have always been dirty plates left outside some cabin doors in the morning on NCL ships.

We were on the panorama in April and somebody had stuck there plate underneath a lounge chair at the back pool. Next thing you know, there was a huge swarm of bees over there and they had to get somebody in a suit to come out and vacuum them all up and stuff. It was crazy!

Loved the pink horse guy and song! But Princess may create their own problem by offering an escalated points program. Royal did double points at the restart after the big C and now people complain that not enough room in the lounges and limited availability in the costal kitchen etc. just a thought…

For dishes on the pool decks, it depends on the ship. On Disney ships, they have trash cans with a platform on them specifically for people to put their dirty dishes on them. They fully expect, bc they have food service right nearby the pools, people to have dishes while they are in pool chairs or tables near the pools. They have made accommodations for that. Also they are usually servers walking round and will gladly take your dishes away for you. Same on Royal with the servers coming around. They are very quick to notice a dirty cup or dish on the floor or chair or even in your hand and will very kindly offer to take it for you. I have not noticed dishes being a problem on either of those cruise lines on any cruise I've been on for them. Now I did notice this be an issue on occasion on a Princess ship I was on a few years ago where they did not clean the pool area that often and the dishes and trash did pile up from time to time.

My husband and I just arrived back in Ft. Lauderdale from our Celebrity Beyond cruise and the dishes on the pool deck did seem to be a bit much at times. The pool deck is literally right outside of the Oceanview Cafe. At least take your plates and cups back inside and put them on a table. Someone had left their plate and plastic cup outside one evening and a gust of wind caught the empty cup and blew it all over the deck. There was a crew member gathering dirty dishes but still. If you’re inside then leave it but if you take it out on the pool deck then at least take it in. As for the stacking of our dishes we also do that but it’s our choice. We have both been servers at one point or another and it’s just habit. Absolutely no expectation for anyone else to do it.

I saw the dirty dish question on another site.There were lots of replies stating that it was correct to place them on the floor under your chair or table-this would greatly help the staff.I fail to see how making them go on their hands and knees scrabbling for greasy plates or cutlery which has fallen off them onto the carpet is helpful.

Recently disembarked my first Carnival cruise and the kids ate in the Cabin a lot. I cleaned the dishes off and brought them back to the lido deck. On Disney we leave them outside the cabin door

We just returned home from 11 days on the Jade. Beautiful ship, excellent staff, great food and entertainment. All the way forward on deck 11 is the bridge viewing area. I found, at least on the ships I've been on, that there are garbage and recycle recepticals on the pool / buffet deck. These recepticals usually have a sheltered spot on the top where I put dishes.

Dishes and glasses on the pool deck...same as in the buffet. Leave them nearby; they will be collected. Regarding room-service dishes, yes, they go into the corridor. It's better from a health and sanitation perspective that your room steward not have to touch them, and (at least on Carnival) they have crew who circulate to pick them up.

We finally decided to try the laundry on our last Princess cruise. My wife had been very scared that they would mess up our cloths but I sent my clothes out while she was doing something. And they came back perfectly and pressed. So it is definitely safe and a go to for now on.

Cruise lines could take a note from Riu Hotels, they have stations on the beach that glasses and plates can be stacked. I thought it was brilliant, I immediately took my glasses and stacked them like everyone else. I realize people may say that's not sanitary, but actually people were coming to clear them often! The worse was the ones by the pool. They used to be just people who took stuff for the buffet, now they have staff who will bring you food anywhere so there are more dishes out there and there USED to be staff picking up those dishes

Hi Tony I’ve only done two cruises but in carnival I was told to leave the dirty dishes outside the room. On Royal I didn’t know what to do so I left them neatly on the table in my cabin. They were gone when I returned from my morning walk, so I guess I did the right thing. With the prices of cruises steadily increasing I’d have to say the perks would have to make my cruise more economically sound to entice me.

We are Princess Elite and totally love the free laundry, especially on long cruises - took advantage as much as we could last year on our 14d Land of the Midnight Sun (Norway's North Cape), and 14d British Isles cruises. Also came in super handy on our 32d South America to LA cruise this year. The problem with these long cruises is that there are so many Elite members that laundry turnaround was 3 days in Europe and 2d in South America. We're also Diamond on Royal and do love the 4 drinks loaded daily to our SeaPass - almost always forgo a drink package because of this. And with the loyalty match on Celebrity, we get matching status as Elite with their daily Elite Happy Hour 😊

NCL is the callback and they pick it up. You can put them in the hall. There were 2 bus tubs by the trash bins on the pool deck which was next to the buffet. I saw people putting their dishes there and being good humans.

Disney does have a designated / labeled space for plates, glasses, cutlery on the top of the trash bins (with separate bins for paper, plastic, food) on the pool deck. … Most ships I cruise have workers who will take your dirty dishes from you on the Lido. Otherwise, I put it on a table

Disney (the Fantasy, at least) has buffet seating outside on the Lido deck, so they're prepared for passengers to have dishes out there. And it's a great place to eat.

The buffet/pool area has service stations around the deck that the crew use. Just slip your plate in there. If eating on a lounge chair, collect your stuff when you leave, and place it in that service station. I know that that seems like more work than just walking away with your mess left behind, but you made the decision to eat outside of the table area, carried all your food to the deck chair, just carry it back and place it in the service station. I'm not grossed out by the potential hygienic effects, I just wouldn't want to have other passengers lounging next to my dirty dishes. Just clean up after yourself if you chose to eat outside of the table area.

Usually the staff clears dishes before I have even swallowed the food -but when I am walking around with a beverage or something, will leave it with other dirty dishes or the closest bar. On Princess, they clear dishes on the pool deck, because they have the app ordering, so there is always waitstaff around. For in the room, I would just do what the line requests, or ask the room attendant if it is unclear.

Ive cruise on Royal Caribbean and Carnival. One tells you to keep your dishes in your room so they dont cause a hazard in the hallway, the other tells you to leave your dishes in the hallway, Guess it depends on which line you are on as to what you should do with your dishes

I have eaten on the pool deck, but not around the pool. At tables in eating areas that are on the same open deck. As for near the pool, I have had drinks and have passed used glasses to drink waiters who were only too happy to take them (on Royal anyway). In the cabin, we used to call for pickup after eating, but now we put used dishes in the hallway outside our door which is what Royal asks us to do. They never sit there for very long and I have yet to hear them being picked up. For breakfast, the cabin steward takes care of the dishes. We hit Diamond on royal fairly quickly because of promotions from the pandemic. We do love the drinks! My Brother in law uses HAL and, like you, his favorite benefit is free laundry.

If I'm out on the pool deck then I'll just leave them in a convenient, conspicuous spot like on a table or something. From what I seen, just about EVERYONE leaves their dishes out in the hallway and the staff picks them up with no problem. I think that's the way to go

We usually try to find a nearby table where we'll place any used plates, utensils and glasses, although if there is no such table in view we will sometimes leave them near our chair. Room service items we do usually place along the wall outside our door, in the passageway, with the assumption that someone will collect them as part of a routine practice. We do occasionally leave them in our stateroom, but we'll do that only if there are multiple trays, etc. and leaving them in the passageway would create a tripping hazard. We prefer not to leave that cleanup to our stateroom attendant. Their carts don't appear to be set up to accommodate dirty dishes.

The only buffet etiquette I have issues with, is I wish people would not take the ketchup bottle to their table and leave it sitting on the table when they're done using it so then there's no ketchup to be found anywhere and you have to walk around looking on people's tables and ask if they're finished with the ketchup so that you can use some. Either take it to your table and use it and then take it back, or stop by the kiosk and squirt some ketchup on your plate and leave the bottle there. Don't hold the bottle hostage the whole time you're eating .

Whenever I take food out of the buffet area, I just leave the dirty dishes any place I would leave an empty drink glass. The ships' staff are usually quite good about being on the lookout for such things, and they are taken away quite quickly.

On NCL in the cabin, you are asked to leave your dirty dished in your cabin and call back Room Service and they will pick them up. At NCL pool side, simply ask your bar server to take the dish and they will happily comply. Easy peasy... Have fun on the Jade!!
