Chuck’s line “....they wanted me for the ARMY or whatever, pictured me giving a Damn, I said never” was so rebellious, and so contrary to what white Americans saw as correct. Those lines basically made you aware of the fact that a lot of black Americans felt completely marginalized by the American Dream, and furthermore weren’t having it.

I have to disagree. This becomes a bit clearer when you know the backstory of the receipt of the letter from the government and that it was a Vietnan era draft letter Chuck's uncle had received and his unwillingness to be inducted. MANY white Americans were very much against the war in Vietnam, just as Blacks were.

That “Nations of Millions” album changed my life. Growing up in Louisiana, I had never heard of Khalid Muhammad or Louis Farrakhan until hearing that Public Enemy album. That album expanded my consciousness, spoke to my soul and forced me to study black history and culture. My first concert was PE and it was off the chain.

WOW! You never heard of Farrakhan till you listened to P.E., no disrespect, but it seems as though the south was not in sync with the conscious movement, as a person living up in the north east, especially N.Y. and Jersey.

I then was lucky enough to be at that Hammersmith show in '87, PE's first UK gig, and it was mind-blowing hearing Rebel live like that. My favorite P.E album that brought P.E's message full circle is "There's a Poison Going On" The whole album sums up the American experience of being marginalized based on the ism's of racial prejudice... Before then, P.E's It's takes a nation, made me a fan. The production on that album is by far their best production work still to this day. But, pioson going on is pure poetry of Truth 🙏🏿👍🏿
