Well theres fault to be put on both sides. the problem is a lot of older legends continually complain about kids being kids and carving their own lane.

In my experience going to school with a lot of white people. Can’t recall anyone of them talking about the Beatles. Music is a trendy art form. Whomever is popular at the time is what the people are on. The new generation rarely ever rocks with the old. Artists build their fan base and that’s who’s loyal to them throughout their career. The best artists stay relevant throughout the generations.

Kane and Kris are from an era where the music was the soundtrack of our life. And those who didn't live the life had their eyes opened to a new world they never seen before. This one is a masterclass. This is the first Verzuz I have watched more than once. If this was the 1990's there would be bootlegged DVD's flying off the corner table... but it will last on the Tube.👍

You have to be interested in hip-hop enough to look up the legends. You have to be willing to get nerdy with it. It's fun cause you can hear the evolution and where styles come from you can also get more context about what was going on in certain eras.

The only thing missing from Big Daddy Kane VERZUZ KRS-One battle. Was the graffiti art. They showed why they are pioneers of the culture that have birthed many MCs and rappers. KRS-One's discography was made for something like VERZUZ he has a huge catalogue with hard hitting productions. Big Daddy Kane just Rhymes and flows effortlessly. His breath control and bars till this day will go over people's heads and the joke is some don't realise how KRS-One is has bars that go over people's heads too. There's no erasure. MC Lyte is on my Mt. Rushmore with KRS and Rakim with the 4th spot changing often. LYTE said that there were always women who loved Hip-Hop, but only a few wanted to DO IT. A million dudes wanted to do it, so by that reason alone it is male dominant. You can never have an equal footing in anything without equal participation! As a Bronx native who was there from the beginning of Hip-Hop, I can tell you for every female MC who isn't talked about today, there are 10+ dudes who aren't talked about also. I can name 50 oldheads (without trying) who are better than today's best. Especially the way overhyped Drake. IJS.

Just a little bit of info for those that don't know. Kool G Rap was spitting rhymes in the early 1980's. I'm talking since 1982-83 when he was down with The Rappeteers in Corona. It was Kool G Rap, Spanish Fly (aka Artwell Smart), and the third I forget his name, but I knew all of them. I think I've got a demo cassette of them all rapping from back then. I've known G since 1983 when he known as Abdul and was walking around Corona wearing a Kufi. No doubt one of the nicest MC's to ever rock the mike. Corona was legendary back in those days with the park jams at PS 92, PS 127, and PS 143 and King Charles having the block parties on 105th Street. Back then G and Polo used to cruise around in Polo's blue 4-door Benz ... the funniest shit was when he got it painted white 'cause it looked like it was painted with shoe polish LOL. Those were the days. My dude Dr. Butcher (I've known since 1982) has a much better recollection of it all from back then. He's a walking history book of hip hop in Corona / Elmhurst.

I thought I was the only one that thought Ice was being disrespectful as well as condescending. I was wishing he was gonna just walk off for a sec or something, like go eat lunch. Instead of rolling your eyes, playing with your phone acting like u a 19 year old kid whose bored in class. He lost me as a fan after this display. You can have something not be your type of thing without being this fucking rude. I'm kind of disgusted.

Part of the problem is the nature of streaming and KZbin. They have all the resources to find out, but it's all diluted, but there's no liner notes, credits, shout out section, comprehensive magazine articles. When you picked up an album the first thing you see are titles and artwork. Then read credits while listening...all of the association occuring in the brain culminates into education. Even the process of the single- video- album- single- bside....and if college radio catches or pop radio...
