I think the tipped over one adds that character you were talking about. I can hear more than one child saying "Oh that one tipped over." and rub their finger over it thinking they can stand it back up, or even think there is water in there under a glass top.

Just to let you know north Florida got 6 to 8 inches of snow the other day. This winter reminds me of when I was a kid residing in Hubbardston Massachusetts in a 1760's colonial home. My daughter resides in central New Hampshire and she sent a screen shot of her dash instrument panel that depicted - 21 degrees 🥶. The table looks to be coming along great and keep warm.

I like it too! It looks beautiful Ken! I've seen people make shower surrounds with the epoxy. They use all kinds of metallic colors and throw the different colors on at once. It looks fun to do. This is turning out really super. Might I suggest a series of these with various themes such as automotive (wheel covers, lug nuts, spark plugs, wheel bearings) ... tools that could be had from garage sales or your friend at the transfer station finding things (screwdrivers, drill bits, nails, screws) ... measuring devices (rulers, yard sticks, etc)... or my favorite was pennies, just laid in rows then clear coated over. Saw an entire bar top done that way and it looked sharp. Some of these would be easier on top of stained plywood and small things can be hot-glued down first.

-23° here again this AM... hoping this is it for awhile at least. I've done a few pour on projects, and until I started to seal the wood first- either w glue or poly- the air bubbles keep escaping from the wood. It was virtually impossible to get them all. This was a big project to undertake for your first one! Good luck with it!

WOW. That's stunning on my screen, so it must be amazing seeing it in person. Looks wonderful. When you was using the heat gun, I could see the bubbles disappear. I really like this brand you're using. You seemed to really enjoy the project. I hope you do another. I was thinking it would be cool to make a 'pebble and rock' version of this to mimic a flowing stream or river bottom. Maybe some sea shells, a few leaves that settled on the bottom, sand and other things you'd find in a creek bed. I'd even add a clock (I loved that idea on this one!). I wonder if a sundial would work??? Just thinking out loud. Good luck next week. I'll be praying for you. God bless

The epoxy needs to be wet sanded with super high grit paper and polished in order to make it look clear. There are plenty of KZbin videos - look at the small-time craft people who make table top gifts and crafts. They almost always do a sanding and polishing stage and make it look crystal clear.
@rupe5310 күн бұрын
yes, wet sanding to about 2,000 grit and machine polish afterward can do it.

Very nice, Ken, it's a work of art! I believe there are specific (very thin, liquid) chemicals that can be applied after the curing/sanding/routing of the pour, which clears it right up and gives it a high gloss. Many of the woodturning fabricators on YT use it (see JackMack for example). There's many applications of this stuff - inlaid door panels for example, tabletops, kitchen tops, lamps, et cetera.

Ken place the jugs in a warm house. Or place a jug in a 5 gallon bucket or warm water to warm before
@LorraineDennison196010 күн бұрын
I cant wait to see it when it is finished. 🥰 There will always be bubbles using wood. The air comes out of the wood as the resin soaks in. The only way to stop that is to seal the wood rounds first. If you are going to flood coat the top after it is cured and sanded, put painters tape on the bottom edge first. Will save you a few hours trying to get the drips off the bottom. Ask me how I know. hahaha 🤣🤣Resin drips almost sent me insane trying to get them off once they dried.

Air Bubbles they are a pain. Next time you should preseal the wood with the epoxy. Just brush it on. Once dry then do your big pour. This will prevent 90% of the air bubles from rising up. Also hot glue the wood blocks to keep them in place. Looks good.

Ken when working with epoxy, you will find that a hot glue gun is your best friend. If you used that on the wood, they wouldn't have been able to float. We even glue down the coins of custom bar tops, before pouring the epoxy over the top. They won't so much float, but can be easily pushed around during the pour, because of the air space under them.
@LorraineDennison196010 күн бұрын

A trick for when they want to float. Lay plywood over top and weight it down and all the tops will be the same height. The foggy epoxy should be polished There's a polishing compound for it. Sometimes another layer of epoxy will make it clear if it was just fine scratches, but you can't depend on it. Many people will sand and polish the final surface rather than depending on the self leveling of the epoxy to get an even surface.
