Nurse advocates are wonderful people Ken. I'm glad to see you back in your comfortable spot. What little advice I can give you, not that you asked, is to enjoy the 'down time' and set looking out that window to enjoy your view, a good cup of coffee, and pleasant memories. We'll all be here for your next video when you're ready. Great to see you.

Ken, I watch your updates on our smart TV, so I don't get a chance to comment much. All I can say is, you're a brave soul! I would never ever choose to have not one, but two replacements so close together as you've done. Am guessing that eventually I'll be needing one knee done, probably the second as well. But I'm in no hurry. Those pain meds scare the daylights out of me! My body doesn't fare well with such things. Of course, I don't care to have the pain either! Keep mending, and do be careful. We don't want you falling and hurting something else! May God bless.

My wife was prescribed Gabapenten with her knee replacement surgery and she acted like she had dementia and Alzheimer’s. I read up on it and those are both side effects. She stopped taking it and was back to normal. Glad you got the other knee replaced. I hope you heal quickly.

Speedy recovery, working in the trades can be hard on the body, in Canada your surgeries and medications would be completely covered by our Universal Health Care, no charge to the patient. Yes we pay more taxes but it pays off in the long run. If your state wishes to join Canada we be happy to have you as a equal partner

Great video. Thanks for your update. Don't want to stress you but watch the double billing. My wife had double knee replacements through ChampVA and there is no cost because I'm a totally disabled 1968 Republic of Vietnam combat veteran. She did have an assistant come in for help. She finally looked at the billing and found the assistant was billing for house calls and did not show up. The wife called the government office. Hahaha 😅. The government worker immediately was over at the house. Usually one can't get government for nothing. That was funny.

I am glad to hear that your second surgery went well. I imagine the issue with getting out of bed was a combination of pain and a bit of anemia due to blood loss and all the fluids they give you during and after the surgery. I know that I was pretty weak the day after my surgery and it took a few days before I was feeling stronger. That showed up in a low red cell count and low hemoglobin in the blood tests they did the afternoon after my surgery. I sincerely hope that you make a quick recovery and can get back to all your projects. I am really glad that I opted for a Medicare supplement when I signed up for Medicare. That meant that I had no copays to worry about. However, if you are generally healthy a Medicare Advantage plan can work out in the long run because you don't have the monthly premiums you get with a supplement. My wife got labelled as having Alzheimers too. She does have a problem with the names of things, which can make talking to her a bit challenging sometimes. When she can't come up with a name for something she substitutes names that often make little sense. I think that at a doctor's visit she simply couldn't recall the name of something and substituted a wrong word and got Alzheimers written into her record. Since then we got her in to see a neurologist who confirmed a diagnosis of Anomic Aphasia - difficulty finding words resulting in pauses and substitutions. The neorologist removed Alzheimers from her record. That was important because here in Maine they can take your driver's license away if you have an Alzheimers diagnosis particularly if you are 80 or older as she is.

Glad you are recuperating well. I'm just a year older than you and been retired for almost 6 years. It probably won't be long before I'm exploring having my knees done. Hips will also be on the radar. Appreciate you chronicling your journey and reporting what to expect. It's funny that you talk about not climbing up and down a ladder anymore. Although I'm not or wasn't in the trades, I have done and still do a lot of my own home repairs, including things requiring the use of a ladder. My 3 daughters have "banned" me from climbing a ladder. The intent was for me not to get on the roof. I fooled them, one of the upstairs rooms is by the porch roof and I climbed out the window to do a little roof repair. They found out (one of my sons-in-law squealed) and I got scolded. Well, I guess I can just be thankful that they keep looking out for me. Best of luck on your continued recuperation and your projects.

Glad that you are doing well. I'm 71 and suspect that I'll be doing the knee thing in a few years. It's helpful to hear about your experience. After watching for years it's like listening to a friend describe the experience. An anecdote: My father was born in 1914 and grew up in Peacham. No family left there, but have visited over the years. He settled in CT after WW2 and that's home for us. Looking out on the CT river as I type this- so there is a connection of sorts. Semi retirement takes some getting used to. I've been dialing back for a better than a year. Still adjusting.

You continue to amaze me with your laid back attitude on this ordeal. Something that came to mind when you mentioned cost was checking your insurance to see if there's a maximum out of pocket for the policy year. My wife had hers knees scheduled close enough to grab a $2,500 savings on annual deductibles. Since you are probably on Medicare, you may need to look at your supplemental coverage. Good luck there!

No you don't have the signs of dementia or Alzheimer, but they tend to inquire after you have Medicare. I'm 73 and the nurse gave me a test when I was 70, she asked me to count backwards from 100 in groups of 7 😄, when I got into the 30's I asked (to see if she was paying attention) if I need to go to the single digits; she said no with a big smile. Good to see the 2nd operation went well and hopefully the unexpected bills stop for a bit of relief from that.

Ken, praise the Lord for the skilled surgeon and nurse advocate and everyone else including the anesthesiologist for the work on the second knee. Your updates are refreshing. Stay strong and follow orders for a quick and full recovery.

So happy that you are now in recovery phase, Ken! I predict you will soon be back in action kicking like Jackie Chan once again since having spoken with your “Patient Advocate”😁. You’ll soon be back to wearing your K Karpentry apparel and entertaining us with your skills, anecdotes and madcap mayhem. 😊😊
