Big Falls drops nearly 30´ on a larger stream that descends off the Allegheny Front. It is in a thick wilderness area where old growth hardwoods and hemlocks can be found. In the winter the scene is vastly different and extremely beautiful, as everything turns to ice. Some of the icicles are more than 50´tall!
The hike is on public lands, but extremely dangerous, especially in the winter, and should not even be attempted without climbing ropes, crampons and an icepick and years of experience of hiking in all conditions.
