I've been a fan of Palmer since his city academy days. He's the same level of talent as foden. He's class, but we can't say he's better than saka rn. We need more evidence of his performances in the prem. My personal opinion is yes, but you can't actually factually say it because saka has done alot more than one year of work. The hype surrounding Palmer is getting way over the top now. He's a great young talent but a decent 15 minute cameo against a tired Slovakian defence doesn't suddenly make him England saviour. Him and Foden have the same gift and problem, they can play left, right and centre of the attack but are least efficient from the left but at least they can do a job outside of their favourite right and central positions. It doesn’t mean they’re not right wingers but you also can’t say someone is wrong for calling palmer a RW considering he’s played a lot of his career there and very well. You might be the same kinda person that forgets that Bellingham is actually an 8 but somehow now people think he’s only a 10. But that aside, the positional versatility of Palmer is one of the reasons Saka IS limited and the first time a conversation comes up for him to play outside of his preferred position, Arsenal fans are crying but it’s ok for Foden, Trent and even Bellingham to be played out of position? They do it for the team so it’s not so bad to bring up the question in relation to Saka and pls don’t get me wrong, Saka is a great player and he deserves his spot, I won’t even take him out or put him LB, just sub palmer on earlier for the next game and if palmer delivers more, then maybe drop Saka in the quarters if they get through so I’m not even advocating for palmer to start straight away but that’s not cos Saka is better, I’m not just reactionary yet cos let’s not forget, Portugal drew 3 group stage matches and went on to win a Euros so the knockout game is when I actually start to judge the players but please calling palmer overrated and bringing up penalties shows a lack of football knowledge. If he misses those penalties which a lot of players do, you will be quiet. Same way England lost a final on penalties and Saka missed along with a few others so penalties are not easy goals, stop bringing that nonsense up to discredit a player who is clearly more than a penalty merchant. Jorginho is a penalty merchant (players that only get chances to score cos of how good they are at taking penalties), that’s not Palmer! We need to see how he develops but eye test tells you he’s not overrated. He’s not a player you can really plan for cos he’s so unpredictable and he can beat defenders with trickery or passes which suggests he has more in his toolbox than Saka who is not that creative. Palmer is a creative playmaking winger when he’s out wide but Saka is more of a direct get at your defender type which Palmer can also do which is why they say Palmer has more to his game. Think of Palmer as what you get if you mix Saka and Odegaard together so the directness of Saka but the trickery and creativity of Odegaard. That’s what people are seeing and that’s why they rate him so highly. Those kinda players are not flukes, they’re undeniable and only time will tell how far he can go!
