Big Game Hunting, but I only have a Pistol

Welcome to the Hunter Call of the Wild. A new reserve has just been released, this vast new region gives Hunters a wonderful new area to explore, and it is teeming with wildlife both big and small. Covering roughly a quarter of the state of New Hampshire, as well as portions of Western Maine, the White Mountains in the northern Appalachians served as the inspiration for the New England Mountains reserve. I thought it would be fun to go out with a pistol and bow and try my luck bagging a few Bears and Moose. I hope you enjoyed this episode of the Hunter, thanks for watching and liking.

Hey Drae, whenever youre hunting a bear, you can tap Z and do a loud whistle, every time the bear will face your direction and stand. It makes getting heart shots really easy on them.

Being Canadian, I can say Moose are known to attack after being shot. Males and females do it but it doesn't happen often. They can also get up and walk away after being hit by a car on a highway, and they usually total the car.

The 7 you seen on the bear was the recommended ammo class you have to level up to see the level when you spot an animal

Hey drae, I believe the scoring system works both on what the animal is and how you take it down. For example if you have say a fox rated 7 and you shoot it with a 8mm magnum with big game ammo, its gonna drop the quality a lot. It also works the other way, if you use a .223 with small game ammo against a bear or moose its gonna drop pretty quick too. Also depends on how many shots it takes 1 or 2 shots to kill will keep the quality/rating at the level or drop it by 1 but blasting it with 5 will drop it quick

Well it's also the "humane" method. I think (I'm not a hunter myself, so I don't know the details) it's based on how much of the animal you can use afterwards. If you want to kill an animal, you're wasting your time using a gun, you might as well drop a MOAB on the forest and call it good. The point of hunting is that you're going out, killing an animal, and harvesting as much as you possibly can off of it. So the more shots you put into it, the less usable stuff there is. You use the wrong caliber and it's about the same thing, there's less of it that's usable as now either the pelt's been blown to smithereens and the meat's only good for ground meat or the pelt has about 300 .22 caliber holes in it and there's just as many rounds hanging around in the meat as well that have bruised and soiled the meat quality. But yeah, no more than 2 to finish off an animal. Any more and it's considered inhumane, which is what you really ought to be feeling bad for, Drae. Anything that you're scoring less than 35% damage is just you being a dick to nature.

Irl it is terrifying in the middle of the night when out in the middle of nowhere fishing and the only weapon you have is a large Bowie knife and a low caliber pistol to find out your being stalked by a cougar.

I'd rather have a low caliber pistol I can fire on target rapidly if needed than a large caliber pistol that kicks and runs away when trying to fire multiple shots quickly, low caliber typically also means more shots in the same size and weight as well. Of course, I have access to semiautomatic weapons and large magazines, so I can respond to an aggressor with as many shots as are needed as quickly as my gun will cycle. I pity anyone that has to deal with hostile wildlife in a hoplophobic area, needing to have perfect shot placement in high-stress life-or-death situations where even seasoned veterans would struggle to even graze the target.

Hey! If you press I while in the harvest screen, it shows the penetration and trajectory of the bullet. Gives you and idea of what different calibers do on different animals. For example, I couldn't get a pistol to get more than an inch or two into the flesh of a bear, hence why you didn't get anything vital.

Hey Drae, Hunting black bear with a .44 mag is not that weird. I got my first bear IRL with a Rugar .44 mag Super Blackhawk with a 10.5 inch barrel with hand loaded 280 grain rounds. It was a little light of a round and it took 4 rounds to kill it. She wasnt happy after the first shot and came at me. I have its pelts on my wall now. My second black bear i got with 1 shot from the same revolver, but this time with 400 grain rounds hand loaded with a little extra powder so it a bit hotter and kicked like a mule. My point is, hunting black bear is not strange. .44mag is a powerful round originally made for hunting animals like deer, hogs, and small bears like black bear.

As much as I love this game. I wish we had a cabella’s easy mode where they are not realistic like the deer at noticing you, higher population, no complaints on multiple hits and just an easy win. I feel it would expand the popularity.

Hey Drae, with larger, tougher game try using different ammunition. Hollow points do not penetrate as deeply as hard cast, pointed, or round nosed ammunition.

FYI The number that is in the box in the the top right is the caliber that is recommended to shoot that said animal not their score . Example when you thought the bear in the beginning of the video was a 7 it actually was the size or rifle you should use to make an ethical kill lol

The Hunter Classic has a werewolf and possessed animals event during Halloween and honestly the werewolves are a bit terrifying. That low, bone-rattling howl they emit when they spot you usually causes my balls to shrivel and I sprint the opposite direction hoping to find a rock or something to use as some form of barrier... 'cuz those werewolves don't fuck around and they're out to murder your ass and they move like grease lightning.

Hey Drae so there are different max levels for different animals in the game white tail diamond level is 3 moose is level 5 almost if not all predators are level 9 and blacktail deer are level 5 ducks are level 3 max and geese are level 5 max and I believe Turkey is even 3 but may be level 5 I forget

As a veteran of this game with many diamonds and rares under my belt, it’s both hilarious and infuriating watching Drae play this and all of the comments giving him false information. It’s not very complicated to understand. There’s an animal level, in the case of the bear, level 1 to 9. The bear he shot was level 3 out of 9. The number 7 refers to what ammo class the animal is. You need a gun that covers class 7 such as a 30-06 or 7mm. He was shooting the bear with what I believe was the .44 which is good up to class 6, not ethical for a bear. Shooting an animal 6 times will ruin it’s quality. You get 2 shots and 2 shots only, if neither of them hit a vital, the trophy is ruined. If y’all don’t know about the game, you shouldn’t give false information. Essentially when there’s plenty of us out there who know the game and are willing to share truthful information.

I think he may have been using hollow points but still they over exaggerate everything in this game like saying 308 it underpowered for moose heck even not PUD loaded 10mm is good enough for both and don't get me started on limiting the AR's to 5 rounds especially when pig hunting

@@CandidKiller It Honestly is a good game and for all the good parts of it I can only point out a few bad things 1st lack of firearms knowledge 2nd almost no modern firearms and 3rd they forget that its a game and should have a little more fun with itself it would draw more players they should add things like IDK over population mode where 10 animals are around every corner or something I've been saying for ages where is the Halloween cryptid hunts you could add a new cryptid every year

So the rating and class are different. So a black bear is a class 7 animal so you want a weapon that is rated for that class. Like the 7mm would be a good gun for a bear and moose. And the .243 is I think rated for animals 2-6. The number in the top right when you spot them is there class

The “7” is the Class, bears are a Class 7. The .44 Mag is rated for Class 4 to 8. I’d be glad to host you in my game and teach you a bit some time if you were free, such as using polymer tip / hare cast ammo for penetration (your hollow points were not penetrating the female moose’s skin, hence why it took so many shots as hollow point makes a big hole but does not penetrate), or how you’re only supposed to shoot it twice at most to hold integrity but have to hit a viral (lung, heart, neck vertebra, or liver) and not damage any trophy organs (horns, antlers, skulls). Feel free to reply here if interested, I’m happy to reach out to help… plus, quirky things seem to find me a lot. Had a duck land in the blind with me last night, and get stuck. Scam bot replies will simply be reported, and are very obvious to not be the KZbinr… not sure why they even bother.
