My tip to a new quilter is don't expect perfection. Each quilt will get better and better. Nobody will notice the mistakes but you. And don't point out your mistakes!

Best tip for new quilters is to be kind to yourself. Nobody is perfect. Enjoy the process and don’t be tough on yourself!

I kind of relate to you moving to a new house/studio. I didnt move to a new house but i moved my sewing room to my daughter’s bedroom. She got married in October and I cry whenever i go to her bedroom and see it empty. So to stop feeling this way, i decided to move my sewing room to hers. It was quite a lot of work but after almost 2 months (yes 2 months! With all the business of Thanksgiving, Christmas and getting the flu), my new sewing-quilting space is ready! ❤ MY tip for those who are new to quilting is to watch/listen to different quilting videos while you are working on a project, this is very good way to learn. You will learn a lot of tips and tricks by doing this. Also, dont get discouraged easily, practice practice, practice. Don’t be too hard on yourself. And most of all, enjoy the process and enjoy the knowledge you get from every new project, either by trying on a new skill or by making mistakes and learning from them.

Hi Corey, The best tip to be given is that exact 1/4" seam/scant 1/4" seams. Practice on sewing seams with scrap fabric before starting your blocks. You will be so happy that you practiced when your blocks come together with the right size. I wish I would of had KZbin 20 years ago when I tried making my first log cabin quilt for my mother's 70th birthday. Thanks for all your great videos, so enjoy everything you share with us. I'm excited to try working with your new flannel line, never sewn with flannel before so this will be a new experience for me.

When I started quilting I thought i should be trying to recreate what someone else was doing. It was a pretty big challenge for a self taught quilter but over the years I've learned it's all about the love of making and sharing and that by challenging myself to create whatever moves me I've really grown both in skill and joy!

Happy New Year to all! I would just encourage new quilters to find joy in your quilting, don't worry about it being perfect. Anyone I give my quilts to love them and don't notice an imperfection. My favorite quilting tool is the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer - I don't mind squaring up half square triangles now where it was definitely a chore before. I am new to your channel and am really enjoying it, your new studio looks amazing, looking forward to new pictures of your space.

My tip is to cut out your binding and sew the strips together and roll it up when you cut out your quilt. That way when your top is sewn together and you have quilted the quilt, you have the matching fabric ready to go. This has made a big difference to me in completing my quilt projects. Thank you for your videos. I really enjoy them!

My tip: When making a child's quilt I love to include their name in the face of the quilt. Sometimes I have use paper pieced letter blocks, sometimes embroidered onto some of the fabrics used in the quilt and incorporated in the border, or even using ironed-on embroidered letters. It's such a joy to see their face light up when they find their name! Also, if they are really young, they can learn to spell their name when cuddling in the quilt.

My suggestion for a new quilter would be to read her instructions carefully, take her time in cutting her fabric, sewing her seams to get an accurate 1/4 inch, and be happy with their end results even if they made a few mistakes because it's his or her first time. Everyone makes a mistake even the pro. Just admire the great job that you have accomplished. Happy New Year to you Corey. Hope you find your new home happy and warm in the new coming year.

Thanks for your video Corey! I always enjoy listening to you and seeing your beautiful quilts! Similar to your year-goal of completing projects monthly, I told myself that for the month of January, I would spend all my sewing time quilting my quilt tops. I enjoy piecing over long-arm quilting, but my closet is getting full of pieced tops which need to be quilted. So, my January goal is to quilt as many as I can throughout the month so I can enjoy piecing new quilt tops the remainder of the year. Its so nice to hear of other quilters having to set goals themselves to get some of their projects finished too -- that I'm not the only one who has many projects that need completion. So, since I already set a goal for January, I'm going to try doing your idea for the rest of 2025 -- make a list of UFO's, and on the first Saturday of the month, select one and try to get it done during that month! Thank you for that great idea!

My tip for a new quilter is don’t get caught up in trying to make quilts that are too advanced just because everyone you know is making them. Enjoy the process of learning different skills at your own pace. It’s easy to jump in the deep end and try everything at the beginning of your quilting journey. Relax , breathe and enjoy each step.

I’m not that experienced of a quilter myself, but the advice I’d give is that it doesn’t matter how long it takes to get it done. Whether it’s a week, a year, or more, the time passes anyway, and so completing anything made by your hands is something to be proud of despite the time it took.

My tip is to take your time & “enjoy the process” & not allow pressure or perfection to steal the joy from this hobby. Every quilt teaches me something & I try to pass that on to my fellow quilt guild members. I have found that most quilters are very generous with their time & knowledge & I strive to be that as well. Thank you for this delightful video & awesome giveaway! ❤️

My tip for a new or newish quilter is when cutting out you pieces be consistent in always using the same ruler throughout the quilt and not using the lines on your 17:49 cutting mat. Many times those are inaccurate and rulers can very quite a bit so for greater accuracy stick with the same ruler throughout the project
@catherinecerutti336521 сағат бұрын
My tip for a new quilter is to definitely be patient. Learn what helps you cut accurately, iron accurately, and sew accurately. If you need to iron something before you sew the next piece together than take the time to iron it. I used to skip steps like that and would tell myself it was no big deal. So untrue. It does matter, so take the time to do all the steps. Perfection comes with practice for sure. I would love the fat quarters for my stash. I could see doing a rainbow type scrappy quilt with those.

My tip for a new quilter is to first make a test block and only cut out the fabric pieces for that first block. This way you can make sure you're able to understand and execute in creating the block and also test your fabric placement before you've cut all of the fabric for the entire quilt. I'm one that changes my mind and sometimes I don't always interpret pattern instructions correctly. Creating a test block helps to flush out any misinterpretations of instructions and play with fabric choices.

My tip is for how I sign my quilts. For me if I dont want to create a full label I use my sewing machine which I can create a string of words from the alphabet and stitch onto my binding that gets sewn into my quilt. My tip is to square up to the correct size whenever possible at each stage as you are making a block or section. I took too long to realize this. Thank you Corey for ALL you do for us. My tip for new quilters is know that your quilts will not be perfect no matter how long you have been doing this. I am a perfectionist and although my quilts look beautiful they are not perfect. There will always be a seam off a little, the block size might be a little too small or big, etc. Know that you are working with fabric that stretches which leads me to the dredded pressing. Don't be heavy handed when pressing. I finger press my seams and then lay the iron on the seam. I have distorted many blocks by pressing too hard. Good luck in your journey in this beautiful art.

When buying your supplies just buy your cutting mat, rotary cutter that automatically closes when finished cutting so if you drop it it will not cut you or anything it hits and a 18" ruler to start then you can figure out what else you might like to add. There are so many great items out there that we have what we need to do the same job so take your time and enjoy the process. Ooh, I think I will follow along the WIP monthly challenge!! We are decluttering around here -- our son (27) still lives with us as he's saving money for grad school & a home and he wants to use my craft/junk room for his bedroom which is OK by me! -- and I'm discovering projects I had completely forgotten about! One of those, sadly, is a table runner I was making for my mother-in-law for Christmas, but she passed away on December 22 at the age of 90. Her funeral is scheduled for the 17th and our daughter will be flying up from Utah to attend, which means I get Sarah hugs which is something I've sorely missed the last few months! Anyway ... thanks for the nudge, and I think that will be fun to do!

As someone new to quilting, my tip, which I learned the hard way, is if your using an already established quilting fabric collection, check and double check that you have enough fabric for the pattern you choose. wow, your fat quarter giveaway is FABULOUS. My tip would be when you finish a project, and before starting another, use your scraps for bonus blocks in no time you will have bonus quilts to be proud of.

I purchased the Dearly loved and the barn pattern. Thank you for these beautiful patterns. To new ( and experienced) quilters take your time cutting and sewing. It makes the quilt come together so much easier ❤❤

I recently changed my sewing thread to superior sew fine. It seems thinner and makes the quarter inch seem to lay flatter. Love your videos and patterns

I added my tip to your blog. WOW there were lots of great ideas posted. Would recommend even seasoned quilters read at least some of them. I'll be going back to finish reading the rest.

Saturday is my happy day! There are so many inspiring quilting videos posted during the week to catch up on while stitching. My tip to new quilters is to organize your sewing area. Have all of your most used tools, thread, extra wound bobbins, bunny tails, and a thread catcher within easy reach when you sit down to sew. And then, you can enjoy the process and won't have to get up to hunt for something you need.

My tip as a new quilter is to take your time when cutting. Try to be as accurate as you can, but don’t worry about being perfect.

Wonderful fabric goodness. Best tool to have is a rotary cutter, ruler, and cutting matt to make cutting out fabric easier.
