On a second note if you happen to come across one that's not incredibly expensive I am looking for a 1915 $5 eagle if it was in a bezel when you got it that's great if it wasn't but it looks like one that should be in a bezel I'll definitely take it

in today's market you can get AU double eagles for ~+$50 vs a bullion eagle or buffalo... would you consider double eagles at this level as good to stack just for stacking purposes and not collection? I feel like nice AU/BU examples might spike crazy premiums in the future and they're currently negligible.. thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Its so bloody annoying when people clean coins. People just don't understand that not only does it ruin them, but they get a lot less money for them. This is all comes from old grandma cleans coins, and it just goes on. I wish people would leave the bloody coins alone, as they just do not realise the deamage they do.

As long as the $20 liberties are real, you still have close to an ounce of gold in each coin so it’s not like they don’t have bullion value even though their numismatic collectibility had been somewhat compromised. Coins that have been professionally restored don’t get labeled as cleaned even though they were. That part of the hobby has always bothered me. You can have a coin whose details are solid , no signs of wear, but if the coin got dipped for whatever reason it gets labeled as cleaned if not done by one of the professional coin grading services. That’s really being nit picky. But it is what is and perhaps it’s a way of getting people to buy slabbed coin’s instead of raw coins. You hate to see a beautiful $20 gold liberty coin from the 1800”s being sold only for bullion because it might have been dipped 20 years ago.

Dipping gold is not really a problem other than removing a colour indicating age. Polishing, however, is the kiss of death for any numismatic premium.

a cleaned coin looks way better than a dirty coin..!!..very simple..!!!!...if it's done properly I don't see the big fuss about it..!!!!!
