Donna Rae Pearson discusses her research with Dr. Valerie Mendoza for “The Women of Brown.” Twelve Black women were plaintiffs in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case, but their contributions to the civil rights movement have often been overlooked. This presentation and discussion will shine a light on their stories and ensure that their names are not forgotten.

Lucinda Todd’s papers were donated to the Kansas Historical Society (you can search for her name on their website) by her daughter Nancy Todd-Noches. There is a bridge in Topeka that was dedicated to Lucinda. Also, Lucinda’s husband Alvin Todd was cousin of Zelma Hurst-Henderson another Brown plaintiff. Zelma’s obituary is online as she was the last surviving plaintiff.
