Mine broke a year ago although i got it off ebay for 3k but hardware wise, it was top notch condition and worked, about a month later it didn't connect to imaging app and no wifi ssid data in the root folder (where the a7iii did have) they said it didn't mean anything when i emailed them, not in those exact words, and then later the stabilisation would not be on at first and wouldn't go into record mode so you have to turn it on and off many times, still have that problem. It wouldn't let me refresh version 2.11 so i'm trying now to do it. Stabilisation seems as shaky as the old camera because of some software issue and i hadn't updated at all since buying so i dont know why it happened. EDIT: updated now it's not even letting me do the quick on off trick to bypass the camera error message.

I took the gamble. Updated from 2.01 to 2.15, then 3.01. I used my friend's PC instead of using my Mac just in case, as I know some people that used Macs had problems. My update worked. So far everything's good.

I’ve done the update on 3 a7s III’s with no problems at all. In fact, the update has been a godsend in many ways. Ran the update using my PC, because the Mac firewall was giving me issues. I think the issues, while major, are pretty rare. If you don’t need the features, you can skip the update, but it was well worth it in my opinion.

I don't have any of these issues after the firmware update on my A7S3. I updated from 2.10 to 2.15 to 3.01 I'm not sure why people are having issues. I did my buy camera recently within the last year and half. I'm not sure if that has something to do with first generation models. I don't even think that's a thing but maybe it is. The only thing I did notice, but I'm not sure I couldn't do this before the firmware update is that my back-button focus doesn't work in Manual Focus mode, but it does work on my A7IV. It will work if I switch to AF-C mode. To clarify, when I toggle on Manual Focus, I can hit my AF-on button which activates AutoFocus and I can get a focus pull that way but still be in manual mode. I don't usually shoot photos with the A7S3 and I like having both camera buttons mapped similarly so I just noticed this recently and I can't find anywhere why I can't do this. People claim the contacts on the lens are dirty. Lol...if that were the case, I wouldn't be able to pull focus in AF-C mode either.

When it comes to controlling the camera via Bluetooth (e.g. turning on recording from the DJI RS3 gimbal), simply enable the camera control via Bluetooth function in the camera's Bluetooth menu. After updating, it is disabled by default.

Yeah the autofocus doesn't work as well. Also the text for exposure is way to small. The new stuff is not worth it.

Text for exposure, certainly an opinion. Autofocus was actually enhanced for me, but I had to redial in all of my settings to get it the way I like it.

@@fofopho No I mean the text is to small now on the bottom for shutter speed, exposure, aperture and white balance. It use to be bigger and easier to read.

@@heynow2880 they release the 3.2 .same issue. I found a tread on reddit where the issue with the samyang lens is fixed by updating the lens firmware! Will try that and update

Battery life issue is DEFINITELY real. It runs hot when charging and I am getting less battery life after the update.

Bluetooth / WiFi issue for me after 3.01. It’s definitely firmware because I can get it to go away for a day or so if I do a total Initialization / Factory Reset. So the hardware isn’t dead but Sony support says send it in for a PAID motherboard replacement.

@@TomWadeCinethey released a v2.02 update last week for Alpha 1, so maybe there’s hope. It got 2.00 and 2.01 updates around the same time A7S III got the 3.00 and 3.01 updates. So the 2.02 is a1’s third update this year 🙏

I use 16-35mm gm i lense and got auto focus problems it's on human eye detecting i get not sharp videos ...

Might be some human error involved with these apparent bugs. Make sure to set up all of your autofocus settings newly. Tracking speed, stickiness, focus assist, and the like. I can confirm that the autofocus is wayyyy stickier in tricky situations now if you’ve got it all setup correctly. All of my lenses are newer than the old GM, so that also might be something that is causing problems. Also, 3rd party glass may have unresolved issues (as seen in the video), but the update itself is banging especially all the little features that no one is talking about (like being able to use focus peaking paired with AF and Focus Assist). For reference: I did the update on 3 separate a7s III bodies purchased over the course of a few years (so different production cycles). Been shooting with the following lenses without any issues: 24-70 2.8 GM II 50 1.4 GM 24 1.4 GM 35 1.4 GM 16-25 2.8 G One of my bodies used to switch randomly to photo mode and back in the middle of shooting. That glitch was also resolved by this update (no idea how but ran it for 2 hours without issue just last week). So this update ultimately may have saved me a bunch of money I would have spending replacing that body (probably). Don’t forget you can run the update again off of a fresh download and that may resolve issues that you’ve encountered. Avoid 3rd party batteries if possible as well which can be fine, but can also contribute to a host of issues during and after an update if the power output isn’t consistent.

Recently when I was filming, there were times when I couldn't adjust the aperture and speed.. I had to turn off the camera and restart it and it was normal. I'm not sure if this is an error due to the update.

I realized the battery is draining when the camera is off! I only realized because I had fully charged batteries left it inside the camera and when I returned it went from 100% to 38% and it was hot! And mind you it was OFF! with no way to accidentally turn on that was not the case and even then in the past it would shut off on its own.
