Will you be picking up your very own Sony A7R III this year? Are you deciding between two cameras? Let's chat about it below.

Hi Lee, I have a question. Is the autofocus in photos/videos and the full hd 60 fps video quality on the R III much worse than that of the Sony a6400? I don't like the A6400 viewfinder and screen, and the quality of low-light shots, so I always wanted to upgrade to R III.
@Lee_Squire7 ай бұрын
@@afferist I would say that it is better. But keep in mind that the RIII has a much larger sensor than say, the A7III or A7IV. So it doesn't perform quite as well in low light. So if you are doing a lot of low light work and that is important to you. Maybe look at the a7IV instead or the a7III if you want to save a few bucks.

In all tests I've seen and from personal experience shooting many cameras the low light of the Riii is right there with the 24mp counterparts. It's when you go to the Riv it gets noticeably worse in low light

Okay, you. just blew my mind. I have 1 high quality card and one normal card and I was so surprised that the writing was slow. But your explanation makes so much sense.
@Lee_Squire13 күн бұрын
Yeah it is an unfortunate truth but now that you know, you can try to combat it with a couple higher quality cards. Just know that one day when you move to a newer body that’s when you’ll get more benefit.
@nicedward75445 ай бұрын
Rii/Riii is still one of the best sensors ever made imo. It's actually just as good in low light as the 24mp ff counterparts. The Riv is super noisy in comparison. They seemed to have improved to low light on the Rv though. If the 7cr had 2 card slots I'd be all over it. As far as durability the Riii is a tank. Mine has been through hell. I've broke multiple Canon 5d's. The Riii has hit concrete more than I'd like to admit but never skips a beat.

Wow! That is crazy haha. I don’t think I have ever dropped a camera! But that is good to know! Also about the low light as well!

No. Buy the EOS R.
@piotrmaslanka7334Ай бұрын
@@tomd4748Why? EOS R has 30.3mp, and 13.5 stops of dynamic range which is much inferior to 14.7 stops on the A7riii - It is built better, takes better photos, and doesn't have an RF mount. I'm about to buy the A7riii upgrading from an EOS 77D, tried to stay loyal to Canon but I see no reason to use R cameras as they're too expensive

Hey! Thanks! I'm glad I was able to help. I would recommend the Sigma Art 24-70 f/2.8 as a great all around lens. And for a prime lens, I really love the Sigma 35mm f1.4. It's a beautiful lens and the focal length is great! If you want something a little cheaper but also a great focal length for portraits, I would recommend the Sony 85 f/1.8. It's a great lens and will take you just beyond the 70mm focal length the zoom would limit you to.

There is a downside of this camera and all Sony sensors. There is a striping problem. If you Google Sony A7iii striping issue or problem you will see some info. DPreview on the forums the title says Sony A7ii but the writer meant A7iii. The stripping issue is also with the Sony A7Riii. Some people may never see the striping issue but the stripping issue was also found on the newest Sony A7RV. Only cameras that I know off that don't have this issue are contrast detect auto focus cameras and Canon cameras. Canon uses dual auto focus. I think its phase detection on a split pixel that avoids the problem Sony has. There are some work arounds for photo for the striping issue but I don't believe there is for video.

I have A7IV and A7riii , I change my a7riii for a7riii for 100€ more with 12.000 shots and it's totally recomend the upgrade , better evf and screen, more mpx if you needed and it don't have the low pass filter so the photos looks more sharp but if you do video I still recommend you a7iii it have better AF , the a7riii it's not bad but a7iii have more coverage but anyway the are 2 great cameras, expend money in lenses because you will see more difference with good glasses than the camera.

Cameras like Canon 5D Mark ii can do the job. Why do we ask ourselves if the A7riii which is only a couple of years old is still capable?
@Lee_Squire5 ай бұрын
That’s a great point. I think it’s largely because whenever a new camera comes out FOMO sets in for people and all of a sudden whatever you have “isn’t good enough” anymore. I will say that while I agree older cameras can do the job, if money is not a huge barrier, I would most definitely recommend a mirrorless model vs DSLR. And it doesn’t have to be the latest and greatest either. Like the Sony a7R III.
@astasuleo5 ай бұрын
@@Lee_Squire i do have DSRLs and i do have mirrorless, one of the best sensors on the A7Rii. For the professional photography either the OLD DSLRs or the mirrorless can do the job with no questions. What matters is the user. Now a good lens will definatelly makes your life easier. But at this point we are with the technology, a better and latest mirrorless camera wont help you enouph with the frame or resolution size we need in most of the photography applications. I'm a technology fan, on the otherside spending 3-4K every year for a camera gear i would better invest on a fast prime lenses.

@@Lee_Squire the 7R II was used professionally for years, so I’m 100% sure no hobbyist needs something better. They obsess on the ILC channels, convinced if only they can get their hands on a9Ii or better, they’ll become the next Tony Northrup. So, do they NEED more or do they simply WANT more?
