Listen to the timing on this stuff. There ain't a modern day band with half the drive that in this. As Jimmy would have said "They ain't nigh close." Keep in mind, this was just a jam session. Imagine sitting on the front row of one of their shows during this time.

Billy Strings and Kody Norris both are very talented. However, they can't sing anywhere near like Jimmy nor any in this trio.
@redlinemando2 жыл бұрын
@@countryascanb5229 I agree. I worked with a band this last year (2021) that has played quite a few shows with Cody & knows him fairly well. Cody is a great entertainer with a tight sound & his band are all very talented musicians. Although I haven't personally heard him say this, the band leader I worked for, says that Cody will tell you that he's not a good singer. In my opinion, he makes his material work well for him & his crowd response reflects that. The only critique I have is that they play certain material WAY too fast. Jimmy, Paul, JD along with many of the founders & veterans of this music, proved many times over that you can have plenty of drive without having to play with excessive speed. It's all about listening to each other, reacting & finding the "groove" that fits each individual song. If a song sounds chaotic, it's too fast & you'll lose the intended feeling of the song. Anyway, that's just my quarter's worth on it. Hope you are doing well & God Bless!!!!!!!

It doesn't look like the same Terry Smith, you guys. Terry Smith if the Grascals was born in 1960. This album was recorded in the early 50s.

Who played fiddle on the Paddy On The Turnpike cut?

Good question. Doesn't sound like Paul Williams on mandolin, either. Could this be a studio recording inserted here?
