Jim's incredible radio journey from jock to PD, to GM, to Owner. And of course his time at CKLW, ORfm, LA, and more. If you really want to get a feel for radio the way it was, Jim's stories will have you enthralled.

Pat, LOVE this interview with Big Jim…really didn’t want it to end. The walk down memory lane with CKLW was very special as I lived in the Windsor/Detroit area for 16 years. Jim’s detailed knowledge, mesmerizing stories and wonderful inside look at radio the way it really was, was simply terrific. I also would love to hear the inside, sad (and ugly) story of the disassembling of the great Big 8…I’m sure it was a combination of an idiotic Canadian Federal Government with its ridiculous stifling CRTC Canadian content rules AND owners who didn’t fight hard enough to save one of the greatest radio stations North America ever had. Hope you post it, Pat…and keep doing what you’re doing! Best, Harry

Thanks Harry. YES, Big Jim has an amazing memory for radio details. Been thinking of actually telling the whole story of Big 8's ending. It's not what most people think. But...it'll ruffle a lot of feathers. So been holding off. Maybe now it's time to let it loose.

I enjoyed every second of this conversation, with two people, whom we can tell, love the radio business and they also happened to be pivotal during some of the best years at the best stations. Love this. Who's next?

Honestly, I feel UNWORTHY of making a comment. There simply aren't enough positive terms to describe this amazing broadcaster and his remarkable talents! Suffice it to say that I owe MORE THAN I COULD EVER AFFORD to his LEGENDARY voice and delivery, to the success I now enjoy with my FM here on the Oregon Coast.

Love, Love, Love this. Jim I've told you a few times how much everyone would enjoy a book by you. Well, let me rephrase that now. You could write 4 or 5 radio books. Love ya, miss ya. And Pat you too. Great to have worked with both of you!

I KNOW, right. He's like an encyclopedia with so much detail and memories. Great to have had some Miller Time with you to Scott.

Truly an amazing gentleman. Really one of the nicest, kindest and most knowledgeable radio types I've ever met and got to know. Very generous with his time.

Great interview, but a slight correction: it was Bing Crosby who wanted to pre-record his shows on magnetic tape and helped fund Ampex Corporation, not Bob Hope.

Thanks Timothy. I'll pass that to Jim at some point when I next talk to him. Easy to get them confused probably. I had no idea either way.

Thanks to Jon Belmont for the tip on this video. Great stuff. And as a former OR-FM junkie in NY, it's great to put a face to the voice!! Jim is clearly a down to earth guy and one we'd all have liked to work with! Some great anecdotes too! Super interview!

Totally fascinating start to finish. My favourite lesson that was much more than I could have imagined. I knew Dick Smyth and his wife very well so that segment had a special feeling for me. Thanks Pat as always. Jody Glaser

Great interview! Any chance you can post a copy of that memorandum he mentioned related to the Drake news format?
