Big laminated knees and our deck finally goes on! (EP34)

After a lot of hard work and preparation we get the deck down, this is a big moment for us. We can now walk around Tarkine without balancing on deckbeams.
We also get stuck into laminating a large knee with a new method for cold bending we have developed...
A big thanks to all our Patreons for really making these videos possible.

This is something special. The team work, the ideas how to do things and the yacht that is under construction, everything is really fantastic and I find this one of the best yacht projects on KZbin.

Brilliant work with those knees. The boat is coming along nicely with more interior pieces fitted in as well. Loved Lefke’s solution for the finger boo boo with the masking tape…😁 I can relate 🤣

That knee design is brilliant, how you laminated it was even more brillianter!!!!!! It’s funny how the animals follow you all around, the duck was really sweet and the chicken’s hidy hole seemed like a good place for a nap. The white and the warm wood is such a good look, beautiful! A long game of Tetris on the deck, nice how you were were able to figure it out, super strong I bet.

Wow what a boat. In this episode tiny duck rides, barrel knee lams, Tasmanian Devil winds play to aptly fantastic music, hero undeterred by injury, and more monocoquing. Wow what a boat. There a few great boat channels on here. This one bests them all.
@DavidMaylen
@DavidMaylen 8 ай бұрын
This is a lovely traditional design frame onto keel, using a lamination process and then attaching two cold mould hull sides to the keel. If ring frames was used it would be a monocoque design. Just thought I would mention, if this helps.

@@DavidMaylen I'm speaking in a general or partial sense as well as in oblique reference to a commenter back a few videos who took the occasion to attempt to debate with the gracious hosts about their choice of methods, not that the Internet would ever encourage such a thing. As a WEST method construction it's a reasonable thought that the skins and lesser frames become stressed members of a final contiguous whole, which is what I allude to. Maybe if a vessel is structurally somehow a true shell it'd better literally fit the term...which would mean that nothing much but eggs actually technically qualifies for it . Generally when speaking generally it's generally permissible to generalize.

I think everyone gets different things out of these kind of channels, for me I enjoy watching amateurs turn out a really good job, and if I can give my professional advice along the way to help create a seaworthy vessel for the hosts to enjoy their dream of sailing the world and no doubt we will get some good footage of their voyages to all enjoy. So I hope that you can understand that it is quite difficult to get advice over without it sounding like a criticism. But this is a serious thing putting a boat to sea and some things need to be said to help and if not said then you need to be prepared to carry it, which isn't great if you genuinely care. I'm not a computer buff or an author, just someone that cares for people with lots of will for their success. So dear friend lets continue enjoying the channel put our differences to aside and keep supporting something that you rightly said and bests them all.@@Trajectionable

Hey guys so I’m doing a very similar project on kodama Looks like your just sealing the deck beams and making sure that where the ply contacts the beams is sealed Did you consider using any kind of epoxy or glue on that surface? Even sikaflex or similar? Or just screws? And I’m interested why?
@Building_a_Boat_by_the_River
@Building_a_Boat_by_the_River 8 ай бұрын
Yeah we seal both the deck and tops of deck beams with neat epoxy and then rough up the surface. We then use thickened epoxy to glue them together, so yeah it’s not just screws but also glue and plastic nails
