Cordwood Challenge 2022, BIG LOG. Been after a Big Log for a while, came across this one after work and took advantage. only had a few minutes of video available on my phone so wasnt able to film it all unfortunately. Quickly measured up against my axe handle, turned out later at 26 inch or 66cm.

Cheers mate! Not far from this log I found an old flooded gum stump,from maybe the 40s, that had been springboarded, and felled with axe and crosscut saw. Thing was about 3m/10ft diameter at ground level, and about 15 foot up at the scarf was still over 5ft diameter. Would have loved to been working in those days!

Wow, you’ve got us beat! Really incredible work. Your accuracy really shines through on this challenge. Nice job overlapping your cuts, that’s something I’m still working on improving. I was surprised to see you choose two relatively short axes. Do you feel like both provided a necessary role? Glad to see a vid from you. Thanks for sharing👍😁 Happy Holidays!
@kurts64
@kurts64 Жыл бұрын
Cheers Codi, and thanks for watching mate. One longer handle would have been ideal, but these were the only ones I had with me on the day (apart from the husky 2400). The blunt tassie from the last vid is on a 33 and I'd had it in mind for a Big Log, but didn't have it with me. Having the two different weights was handy though and I did alternate between them a bit. The HB with its narrower bit seemed to cut a bit deeper, but didn't overlap or clear chips as well as the hytest. Have a good Xmas mate!🎅👍

Great bit of film Kurt and a very handy job on a decent log. I've really been enjoying your channel and picking up really useful tidbits to resurrect some old gear with my teenage son. I retired a few years ago and it's nice to give him some time that takes us into the bush (and an excuse to flyfish a bit more!) A lot of what you show is the same as I was taught as a kid but you clearly paid more attention and did more practise! (work) So, your channel really helps and it also brings me a quietly happy strange satisfaction that not everyone understands. And it helps me avoid those silly euro axes that everyone seems to have these days. Cheers mate. PP

Gday mate, cheers, the front side went pretty quick, maybe 6 or 7minutes, but the back took a fair bit longer, cause of trees in the way, a bit of gluey wood, and stopping for photos.
